2000 Grand Prix won't shift under hard acceleration

3.1 Runs nicely most of the time but when you stomp on it the RPMs just climb and it won't shift into next gear.

No engine codes. ANy thoughts?

No - it is like it gets in gear and won't shift up, just whine up and red line. If you take your foot off the gas then it will shift.
 
Had the same exact problem, I ended up having a clogged cat. Eventually it got to the point where even lifting my foot off the gas and putting it back on wouldn't cause it to shift.
