I wondered why the sound system didn't seem very powerful... and i turn on the balance or fade and sent it all to the back and I had NO sound at any volume. Only the front 4 are working. Any idea's maybe fuse or bad connection, i'm not good with wiring stuff. I fiddled with radio settings but made no difference.
 


They're 17 years old. Probably blown out. I've never hardly seen a factory GM speaker live more than 10 years.
Replace with aftermarket 6x9s, or live without.

It COULD be a wiring issue. Try the battery test to confirm bad speakers. Take a 9V batt, detach radio leads, attach from batt to speaker: + to +, - to -. Listen for a clicking sound, and/or watch for the cone to move. Nothing? Speaker is trash in that case.

To rule out wiring, you'd have to move a known-good speaker to the rear connections.

If you have a Bose or Monsoon audio package, pretty sure those run a separate amp that only power the rear.
 
Agreed, try the procedure above. However, I doubt it's the amp because all the wires go from the head unit to the amp then out. When my amp failed, there was no sound at all.

I've heard rumors that the front is just passed through, which might be true, however having personally upgraded manually from no amp to bose, the fronts are louder (could be all in my head idk).

Anyhow, the factory wires run on the passenger side under the door molding, rear quarter panel, then out by the seat back. This applies to bose and non - bose systems. Main difference is bose=more wires. Let me know if you end up needing wiring schematics.

To remove the speakers, you just remove rear seat cushion bottom, 4 18mm bolts/ nuts, seat belt buckles, lift bottom of rear seat- back to clear the bolts, lift up to remove seat, remove black retaining clips (two I think), carefully remove speaker deck cover, unplug speakers, four screws that secure speaker, and done! Installation is reverse.
 
Any ideas for what speaker to replace them with that is a good speaker but will fit right there.
 


Any 6x9s will work fine. Depends on what you're after. I picked up a set of decent quality alpine speakers from the junkyard. Always my first check for speakers. Since they are kind of hidden and hard to get out, most of the time you can find really good ones in the junkyard. You have to work for them, but that's your excuse to learn how to take it apart and not worry about breaking things! haha

I grabbed some Sonys from wal-mart (had a gift card that needed used) a while back for about 40 or 50 for the pair, pretty good bang for the buck. Nice and clear at loud volumes, pretty solid bass without farting out, built in tweeters.

Just about anything will be an improvement over the stock pieces, or, nothing lol.

It's kind of a pain to get to them on these cars (compared to others) since you have to completely pull the back seat to get to them.
