Agreed, try the procedure above. However, I doubt it's the amp because all the wires go from the head unit to the amp then out. When my amp failed, there was no sound at all.
I've heard rumors that the front is just passed through, which might be true, however having personally upgraded manually from no amp to bose, the fronts are louder (could be all in my head idk).
Anyhow, the factory wires run on the passenger side under the door molding, rear quarter panel, then out by the seat back. This applies to bose and non - bose systems. Main difference is bose=more wires. Let me know if you end up needing wiring schematics.
To remove the speakers, you just remove rear seat cushion bottom, 4 18mm bolts/ nuts, seat belt buckles, lift bottom of rear seat- back to clear the bolts, lift up to remove seat, remove black retaining clips (two I think), carefully remove speaker deck cover, unplug speakers, four screws that secure speaker, and done! Installation is reverse.
