2000 Grand Prix GT starts easily then dies after 2-3 seconds

My 2000 GT with the 3.8 has been running ok. It has had a little hesitation first thing in the morning, but overall ok. The other day when I got off work I start it up and then it just dies like it is out of fuel. It starts right back up, but will only run a few seconds and just cuts off. I checked the fuel pressure and it is good at 45#, even after it dies. Replaced the MAF sensor and no help. Same problem. Same symptoms every time, runs a few seconds and cuts off. I haven't ran the codes yet. Any ideas?

P1629

Description
THEFT DETERRENT CRANK SIGNAL MALFUNCTION

Vehicle operation is disabled if incorrect key or starting
procedure is used. Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) module enables crank
circuit to starter and sends a signal to PCM if correct key is being
used. If proper signal does not reach PCM fuel enable signal circuit,
PCM will not pulse injectors on, disabling vehicle, even if crank
circuit is by-passed. Signal should be between 40-60 Hz and is
measured using DC scale on DVOM.

Symptoms
Engine will not run

Causes
PCM detects incorrect signal on theft deterrent fuel enable
circuit.

Solutions
Check for faulty connection at TDS module.
Bypass VATs(92-99 only) ← Had to do this on my '96 Cutlass. Some radio shack resistors and heat shrink tube, and I was rolling again.
Replace VTD module.

It consistently gives that P1629 code, but the "security" is not showing on the display and the light on the dash is not on or blinking.
