1999 GT coupe audio upgrade help!!!!

I have a stock coupe without Bose. I put in new JVC speakers in back, 6x9. They sound pretty good. I want to upgrade the fronts, which are 5 1/4. Will any other speaker size fit in there without modification?

I have the stock head unit still. I really want one that has an iPod input but I still wanna use my steering wheel controls. Can this be done or should I just get a transmitter?

Any suggestions on speakers and transmitters?
I'm on a budget also :)

Thanks guys!

5 and quarters fit with no mods, you can stick apiece of MDF in there as a sort of mount for six and a halfs and perhaps get some more SPL outta it.

If you want SQ... lemme know... it'll be a VERY long thread... :p

Do you have a pair of speakers at home you can experiment with to find the kind of sound you'd get with different installs?

Most basic test is, take the two speakers, place them in the corners of the room, then faces the speakers DIRECTLY at each other and sit 10 feet back and to the side like so:

If you don't mind how that sounds, then I'll find some speakers that will do well for you.

If you miss the imaging, or the illusion that the noises are coming from somewhere between the two speakers, lemme know. :p

I like the way that sounds. Do you have any suggestions? Cheap speakers...well cheap in price not quality. Thanks!

Well a good price range would be about $100. I have some JVC speakers in back of the car now. They sound OK. If I could get some better back and front door speakers both sets out the door at around $100 that would be perfect. But I know they don't have good speakers that cheap sadly. If they do, what do you recommend? 5.25 fronts and 6x9 rears. A sub would be nice also. Not too big. Let's say $150 total. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Are you running these highs off an amplifier? If so, i'd go with 6.5 in the front. (Handle more power) If not, 5.25 are fine. Everyone will have there own opinion, Maybe take a look at 5.25 and 6 by 9 pioneer Revs. Possibly Hifonic Zues 6 by 9s are nice, i bought some to play around with, have a neat tweeter protector, and handle 110 rms.(These are also $100 shipped!!) Along with a L.E.D if you like that. A subwoofer brand is up too you, Kicker, JL Audio, RE, and Digital Designs are all brands i liked.
Note: I have an extra U.S. Merlin Amp MD3D 2000 RMS i may sell too if you want some power.

If your budget is 150 and 50 for a sub, you'd better start browsing Kijiji or craigs list because a sub box will cost more than $50 on its own.

Try this for front woofers: Parts-Express.com:Dayton DC160-8 6-1/2" Classic Woofer | woofer dc160-8 6-1/2" woofer midbass dayton dayton audio dayton loudspeaker

this if you wanna spend a little more: Parts-Express.com:Goldwood GW-6PC-4 6-1/2" Heavy Duty Woofer 4 Ohm | woofer gw-6pc/4 6-1/2" woofer midbass goldwood delmar series heavy duty woofer delmarWoofers123008

and these for tweeters in the front: Parts-Express.com:Tang Band 25-1166SJ 1" Neodymium Tweeter | tweeter dome tweeter fabric dome neodynium tang band tb speakers

For 6x9's, go to a store that carries car audio and see if they have any decent brands on clearance, sony or pioneer would be good.

Partsexpress also sells a lot of cheap subs so pick a size then find something within your budget.

For amps, I don't think you can afford any so craigslist would probably be best to try and find a deal.

Pizzi, wtf is he going to do with a 2K RMS amp? lol
