1999 Grand Prix GT Trans revs high

Since my wife got this car (she bought it without me check'n it out cause I was at work:th_angry-teeth:) the trans revs pretty high in the first 3 gears. When driving in a 40mph zone you have to goose the throttle so it will shift out of second. If you don"t goose it it will ride out 3000rpm while do'n 40mph. Just thought I'd throw this out there and see if anybody has heard of anything like this.
 


Mine does the same thing not sure if its normal or not. shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 15*20mph then doesnt shift into 3rd until 45mph or so.
