1998 GTP transmission ticking noise

Hello,

First time poster. I have 1998 GTP with 130K miles. Recently I've noticed a ticking rattling noise coming from the transmission. It seems to only do it when the car is warm. It does not do it in drive. I had the fluid changed but it still does it. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? Is it even an issue? Transmission shifts very well otherwise...

Thanks

Ticking/Rattling would be a hard part if it's the trans. Likely it's nto the trans though.

Post a vid of the noise please.

Thanks for the help...

Yes the noise is more like a rattle and seams to be coming from the bell housing area. I ran the car on the ramps and looked from underneath. I've heard references to the flex plate making noise? What exactly is that?

If it is in the transmission, not sure why it would do it in park, reverse, neutral and not drive. Maybe torque converter? But I do agree it could also be from the engine. Definitely underneath though.

I'll try to post a vid soon.

This is a flex plate. It connects your engine crankshaft to the transmissions torque converter. And ..balances out things to a degree.

These do crack at times and can give off a rattling noise. I'd hope this is what the issue is..or maybe a loose flex to conveter bolt (you can check these from underneath the car with a 10mm, 18mm (wrench) and a decent sized flat head screw driver).

If you have to put another flex on, you either lower the trans or raise the engine.

Thanks,

I can certainly check the bolts but I'm
unsure how to reach them. Do I need to remove the starter?

I've replaced a clutch on a ford ranger but have never messed with a front wheel drive car.

I'm not sure why the rattle would only happen when the engine is warm and the transmission out of drive. Is there a way to check it for cracking?

Underneath. there's a plastic cover held on with two 10mm bolts. Maybe a second around the starter that is held with another 10mm on the front fo the trans. Once off..you can see the flex and it's bolts. Well..kinda see.
