1998 gt random car not starting. just faint click. battery tests good.

This has happened in the past and replaced the battery. Fixed the problem all winter. The old battery actually tested good after removing, so the battery was obviously not the problem. I tried starting it a couple days ago for my daughter, and it just clicked. I got in and put my foot on the brake and ran the shifter back and forth and back into park forcefully....and it started right up! Now this morning I went to start it and just a faint click. Cant really tell where it's coming from. Any ideas? I tightened battery terminals, checked fuses in the engine compartment (not solenoids), loosened and tightened ground below the engine fuse block, and nothing. It just clicks. The lights on the dash acted a little funny when I had the charger on it on cranking charge... not sure if that makes any difference. Where do I start?
 


Did you try moving the shifter again to see if it would start? Almost sounds like the neutral safety switch is acting up and it thinks its in gear.
 
Update. Got home and it started.... 8 out of 10 tries. Lol. The last time it clicked and I held the key forward and it started. If I wouldn't have held it I know it wouldn't have started. It didn't grind or crank. It was just quiet and for some reason I kept the key in the crank position. There was maybe a second and a half delay. Now what?? I can't have my daughter stranded.
