nope, the 97 are vacumm controled. so you need one out of a 98+
all 97 GTPs have the 4t65eHD
the first half or so of 97 GTs produced have the 4t60e. electronically controlled aside from vacuum controlled shift modulator for firmness of shifts. people always confuse the 4t60e with the 4t60[440T4], which the throttle cable exclusively controls the shift points, while the modulator controls the firmness.
And again you aren't specific. It's not GP's, it's GT's. Stress on the T. Aka if you were SC'd you have the 65, if you weren't you could have the 60.
The 97 65 is slightly different from the 98+ in that it has the same clip retaining the diff that the 60 had before it. In 98 they changed that and a couple other small things. The only time this would be important is if you kill the 97 diff.
