130,000 + miles?

How reliable will a gt or gtp be after it cracks about 130,000 miles. Will a lot of the stock parts need to start being replaced at this point and how much life is left in the motor if well maintained with fluids??
 


I've had mine since 115,000 miles and now it has 140,000 miles. I haven't changed anything but a battery and some things to do with the front suspension (which is due to the rims I have messing up the suspension)
 
keep up the maintenance and it will be fine.

Maintenance is a big key on keeping your car running a long time. Mine is at 226 right now. And while I have had to replace parts, it is cheaper than buying a new car and having a car payment. Not many cars out there can run forever without replacing parts.
 


Hitting 139k, gonna change oil this weekend and Im scheduling a transmission pan drop soon. After i hit 150k im flushing the coolant, changing plugs, wires and coils. Then im starting a little modding operation - struts, springs, swaybars, tb spacer, dp, plog, ecu tune, bullits, new rotors... thats amongs other things. this is my car's first full-blown chicago winter! no rust as of now!

so far the only problem is my rotors - they are warped and very squeeky.
 
118k on mine and had great luck with it over the last 90k

The better you take care of the car the better it will take care of you.
 
My 97 gt has 189k on it and ive only changed a sway bar...rust took that though. motor and tranny wise the car is great, never dissapoints when i stuff it to the floor either. keep the car happy and it will keep you happy
 
140K on mine. I've replaced a fair amount of things, plenty of sensors, etc. The motor itself is in great shape and still purrs like a kitten.
 
175,000. stock everything on the engine. alternator, waterpump, PS pump. doing struts this summer and swappin a trans. like said before keep up maintance
 


MY old SE gp had 14500 miles and had been with a salvage title and the thing ran awsome no problems at all except for rust but what can u expect NE winters.
 
I've seen 2 3800's go for over 250,000, one of them was like 311,000.

You keep your cars up, these engines can go for a long time. Transmissions....that's another story... lol

A-freaking-men to that! When you look down the oil fill neck, the metal is still a shiny silver and my oil almost doesn't even look dirty when I change it. I think the engine can go for a very long time if taken care of.
I completely agree with you on the tranny's. They suck! :th_skull: (compared to the engines anyway).
 
The LIM gaskets should be the first on the to do list of any of the GM cars of this peroid. If the LIM gaskets have not been replaced, now is a good time to do it, BEFORE they blow out and spill coolant into the engine.

Agreed. First thing I did was the LIM.
Then while I was in there I thought why not do rockers.
Then I thought maybe a cam bould be better.
Then I thought if I'm putting in a cam the heads are practically off so lets do the heads.
Then I thought wow i should port the s/c and get headers.
Then I thought geez...I could go turbo for the cost of headers and porting.

......And now I think I'm half way broke.

Car's almost done though. Need to start saving for a tranny.

how do I know when the LIM gaskets are going bad (or are bad) what to sings look for?
