• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

1.9s, springs or no?

$200 for the set. 3-angle valve job, new seals, hot bath, etc. They also mill it just enough to ensure flatness, flux them for cracks, check valve guides for excess play, etc. They do a lot more than I can do on my own. The heads will be like new when I get them back.

It's the same shop that is behind this website. They really know GM products and have a great rep around here:

They local to you? So no valve guides enless you need some with that quote that they gave you right?

Yep. They're a mile away from the base.

No valve guides unless necessary, and no I doubt it's included. I doubt I'll need valve guides, though. The heads only have about 80k miles on them and I'm doing most of this simply as precautionary measures. I don't feel like pulling the heads ever again.

If you could find out what the gm spec is for the movement of the valvestem when inserted through the guide I would appreciate it. What is it like .005 maybe?

Gimme a sec... Okay. The books I have in front of me gave me this:

1995-2001 - 0.0015 to 0.0032 inch
2002-later - intake 0.0012 to 0.0028 inch exhaust 0.0014 to 0.0029 inch

I'd have to dig up my laptop to pull out info from the GM SI manual if you prefer.

I have seen the tool that you use to check this but do not know what it is called. It was a tool that clamped onto the head if I remember correctly.

Where are you getting this info from? I have seen you post similar things like this and if it is in a book of some sort I would like to pick one up.

Well, the info I just gave you is from a Haynes. I also have a Chilton here that agrees. I also have access to the GM SI manual on my laptop. Same program GM gives dealers and covers any GM vehicle from about 1985 and my version goes through 2005. Everything GM knows about their vehicles is in that program. Step by step on how to fix anything and all tolerances and values you need while working.

Ok I have access to the Online GM manual. Did not realize that they had that kind of stuff on there. Only used it once.
