1.8 SLP rockers with XP cam or VS Cam

Can you run 1.8 slp roller rockers with an XP cam or VS cam. Have the opportunity to get some for a decent price and was wondering if you can run the rockers with either of those Cams. The gtp has a XP cam in it and I will be building another engine for my Cutty project that will have a VS cam. Both on stock heads. Will they work on stock heads and is there any real gain in running them. I have looked but could not find any answers if this is possible. Just wondering.

Thanks!

Most people do one or the other, meaning, either a cam or rockers. Gains are similar either direction, but together not significant. You can run both, and I've seen a couple of builds that way. But it for sure will require different length push rods. Stock heads are fine. The suggestion is anything over #110 or #125 springs needs double roller timing at least. Which also means machined front cover, etc.

Yeah, I got the Double roller and 130# springs in the XP build already, I saw the 1.8s need longer pushrods. I am on the stock length pushrods in my XP car, so I am assuming they would need the longer ones. Just wondering if they made any difference and can run on the stock heads.

No idea what James was trying to say.. because I see a lot of conflicts.

I ran an S1X with 1.8's. Have helped put together S3X with 1.7's etc and have helped with XP and 1.8's etc.

First off, your valve guides are going to need to be machined for the lift plus a safety margin once the seals are installed.

Second, correct your spring seats with whichever retainers you plan to run so the springs are at the correct install height (99% of 3800 guys don't do this). Because we don't use springs made for the 3800, so with modded retainers you'll find height to be around 1.78xx" when LS springs require 1.800" install height. Incorrect height, incorrect pressures.

While the heads are being worked over, you'll want slightly larger valves that don't go outside the hardened seat area and for the heads to be opened up a bit. Say Stage 3 heads. A 130# is probably the least amount of spring you'll want on that setup.

Pushrod length, measure it. It has been too long, but I believe my build used stock length. Rod length depends on which brand of rockers you get. If you did a cam only, you wouldn't need different pushrods, therefore if the rockers you get require a different length pushrod if used alone...then you'll need a different rod. Short answer though.. measure.

All good..thanks for the info guys. The XP cam is already in the car and running so not going to take it apart to do head work on it. If it was as simple as swapping out rockers and pushrods I would do it but I figured the lift might be to much on the XP cam. I am happy with my current set up they were a decent price so figured why not see. E85, FSIC, and 2.6 pulley is fun enough :)
I got a VS cam for my other build for cheap so might just sell that and get an S1x for it instead...its for a CSC procharger build so haven't decided on a cam for it. I saw ZZP dynod 400whp on a VS cam and CSC but not sure what other mods they had and it was a long time ago...That build is for the fall so got some time to research. Not really looking to do any head work at this time for either build.

If it matters any....@timboku I got Intense 1.8s that I aiming to sell. They are Rev.3 with pedestals about 8000K miles on them. Let me know if your interested.
