08 aftermarket radio harness

Hey I have an 08 grand prix with the stock non monsoon radio. I bought a pioneer radio and was gonna cut and splice the stock harness to wire it in until I was told by a friend it won't work. Anyone else go without the harness and an aftermarket radio?

I see the one is need but I don't need chimes and don't use on star. Can I just skip the harness all together?

I have never done a new GM vehicle like this that isn't just a cheap harness so sorry for all the questions but why do you not recommend going without a harness?

being able to return to stock, keeping chimes is nice to me..

I was able to find my harness for $60.. just gotta look around. I might have gotten lucky.. but still

OK I just wanted to not buy one if I just lose small stuff like that

Like most things in newer cars, the radio is integrated.

Get the correct harness. You're talking $20 tops. Splice that into your new radio's harness. Soldering is best, but butt connectors are OK.

You're gonna need an antenna adapter anyway. GM has for years used a mini Motorola antenna plug. Most aftermarket units use a full sized Motorola connector.
