07 Grand Prix Multifunction Switch issues, high beam switch seems to be broken

So I'm pretty sure most mid to late 2000's Grand Prix owners have had a problem with their High Beams, or Brights, coming on after turns. Right now my multifunction switch is keeping my High Beams on anytime my lights are turned on manually or by the night/day sensor.
Is there a way to recondition the part? I cant trust one from the junkyards, I have checked. I would rather keep a pice of paper in the socket to keep it manageable but I'm getting sick of accidentally flashing everyone.

I bet you are having an issue with the relay. Instead of just guessing you need to go some actual diagnosis.

Having the same issue with my 06 only not quite as bad yet. Seems like it's becoming a common issue for 04+ cars as they age.Mine will turn high beams on any time the right hand turn signal is used after the sensor sees it's dark out. New or good used multi function switch is the fix from the research I've done. Pretty sure there is an open recall for 07 cars for the headlight module aswell.

So I have already taken care of the relay and I am positive that if I take out the multifunction switch and replace it, the problem will be solved. I don't want to pay over $50 for a multifunction switch because I can handle the problem with a pice of paper. I was just hoping someone may have know a way to recondition that specific part.

Get a new MFS or keep you paper. You can try and repair the MFS, but there are usually little contacts in there and they get burnt up; I have yet to re-vitalize a signal switch. Your switch is $50-75. I'd just get a new one. Heck, I paid $140 for mine a few years ago.

I have the opposite problem. When I put my right turn signal on, the brights randomly come on with them. If I wiggle the multifuntion the brights usually go off, but sometimes come back on or just flicker. I agree with the above comment. I have been lazy and haven't replaced the MFS. I need to get that done.

Thanks alot guys, I think I am going to get to a better junkyard to find it. It's $16 at the junkyard, $73 at most auto zones and advance auto, and $43 online. It just really sucks that they made this part so awful

As long as you're willing to replace it again in a year or so when the junkyard part fails, it sounds like you are onto a winning plan :)

yeah its the plastic tab that the detent spring sits in that wears, they don't exactly do much aside from wave a grease/oil brush near the part as they assemble it, remember it only had to last 100k, modern stuff is made so that at 120k 80% of the car is 90% wornout

the good news is that when they redesigned the switch (since the BCM now controls everything and all the MFS is doing is "requesting" a function)
the thing bolts on from the side so it can be replaced without removing the steering wheel like the 03 and older steering columns, just be carefull of the horn pin.

the junkyard is a great place to practice parts removal, 2$ entry fee gives you lots of training and experience, with the "no fuqs given" encouragement
