07 GP GT Heater Hose Nipple Retainer Bolt Broken Off

Was flushing my heater core yesterday and it looked like the bolt for the upper heater hose nipple was loose, so I tried to tighten it a little and POP it broke off :th_embarassed:. I didn't know it was a shoulder bolt but I didn't really put any force on it to begin with so Im sure it was already seized. So....Anybody have any tips on getting a drill bit in there to use an easy out. I haven't tried removing the bolts from the dog bones and pulling the engine forward but Id assume its the only way Ill have a chance. Im amazed the pressure of the coolant system doesn't pop it out of the engine, guess that O ring holds pretty well but I don't trust it enough to leave it like that. Thanks

to add, you could likely zip tie or wire tie the bracket. when i removed mine to swap to a different alt bracket the in and out tubes really did not want to come off. took some doing to work em off.

I really wasn't sure what you meet earlier when you said remove all bracket lol. I was under the assumption that was the block or head those fittings went in. But after that fitting popped out on the way home from work and I lost all my coolant I figured it out pretty quick. I ending up drilling and tapping the hole and use a new bolt.

I also change out the thermostat once I flushed the engine and core. The thermostat I removed was off center, can't say I've seen one like that. The new one looks normal

Thanks for the help, I would have never known that whole assembly come off

I didn't replace them but I inspected them pretty good and lubed the O rings. I'm guessing now by your comment that is a failure point?

I checked them several times and they looked good after getting everything back together and running it so hopefully I'm good. Its pretty easy once I now know what's going on there with everything

yeah, the upper one likes to blow out, the lower one leaks more than blows out. they sell metal ones now. for a whole 10 bucks at the parts store.

the plastic ones get brittle from heat over time. then fail.
