I have a 05 Pontiac gtp comp g recently just got it and I hooked my DHP tuner and it read the BIN file and let me save it just when I go to open the file on DHP or tinytuner it wont let me I get the ERROR#73 severity 1 I even tried doing it thru HXD and tried to replace the VIN like instructed and nothing it says access denied . I really wanted to tune this L32 but its got me going nuts even tried doing some BINs from the Drop Box and it says the vins aren't compatible ???

I just installed it with directions over email and it tuned my 02 gtp and a frriends 04 comp g fine except this one and I even tried doing my friends since it worked and nothing
explain the data base set up or can I pm you man

its just a folder you drag into the dhp folder. if it worked on other cars id guess its installed.

i just did a 05 gt today with a off board. went fine. read it, saved it, edited it, flashed it.

just seems odd you cant open the file. i know ive opened them up from the drop box. they all worked. im running the timing from a comp g 05.

I can open the drop box ones they just wont upload I get then mismatched vin box and says to type it in manually and I do then it throws that error code

you pulling the radio fuse?

try telling it to use the pcm vin, if that dont work try bin vin. would be the same. if that fails enter it manually.

in car fuse box, pull the radio fuse. if you dont pull it it can do funky things. off boards are much safer for 04-05 cars.

you have a spare pcm? if not id get one just in case this one bricks. the pcm you have could also be the issue. crap happens.

ok so you pull the fuse then you flash then tune? or when do I pull the fuse better yet? and I don't have a spare pcm if it brinks is it still driveable? thanks man your input is helping alot

pull fuse then try to flash.

if it gets bricked its over. aka its dead, just a paper weight. if you get any failed flashes rule one is never turn the car off. once you try again dhp will ask questions with little windows asking if you want to repair the file and so on. if you kill the power it never recovers.

why a off board is so much safer. takes the car out of the equation.

how to make one, the one i listed works on 04 and 05. http://www.grandprixforums.net/threads/102303-Easy-bench-harness-99-and-04

you dont even have to take the pcm out of the car, just unplug the blue plug and put the off boards blue plug on, for power you can run long leads and alligator clips for power right off the battery. just make sure they dont come off.

that off board looks a bit more than I can chew at the moment and I might jus wait till I get a spare pcm cause I gotta work tomarro if it kills the pcm I cars not gonna be able to drive serious question lol

cars dead as the pcm. it can happen. why most recommend a spare on hand. i got one my self after bricking the one and only i had.

if you got a junk yard near by the plugs are cheap. and a pcm should not be more then 40 really. what they go for on ebay.

ohhh forsure ill probably send my buddy to go get me this pcm at a yard 04 or 05 gtp tomarro I gotta get to work tomarro hopefully its tuneable the yard pcm but ill give it a go with the D/c off the radio fuse thanks a lot man

no problem, just trying to save ya from a real headache being its not flashing. that used pcm should be ok to come from a na or sc car.

oh I was gonna ask since you said na or sc car just has to be 04-06? and hell yea man it would suck not being able to drive it to work its my commute car at the moment

in the drop box is a pcm compatibility list, may sure the part number will work on a 04 and 05, they might not cross over.

I don't know about the comp g because of the transmission, but the 04 gtp file works fine for the 05. Also 05 isn't technically supported in DHP. I've been finding a Lot of things different from the 04 vs the 05. BTW, I bricked 3 PCMs before building my offboard adapter.

I just bricked my first PCM this week. The sad thing is I have an offboard programming cable that I made, but I didn't use it just because I didn't think it was worth the trouble of disconnecting the PCM. Programming in the car had been working great too, but it let me down and all it takes is one time, and then you're hunting for a new PCM.

Offboard adapter is a MUST. Also, I would make sure to have at least one good spare PCM programmed and ready to go at all times, should some freak accident happen and you brick the one in the car.
