05 Grand Prix Rattle

I have taken a peek under the hood, and knowing this rattle comes from the passenger side of the car, I see a heat shield at the from of my engine, Covering what i believe is my cats (not to mech savey) on the lower part of my engine where my radiator is. I referred to a friend who said he had a similar rattle, and explained a plate in the same location on the engine on a 02 grand am. I looked at this part and there are bolts thats rusted through the shield and the passenger side of it is now loose. Can I remove this? what effects would this have overall on my engine? should I just fork the cash and replace it? or try to rig something up to hold it in place with no play?

Thanks for the help in advance.

(the piece is a thin aluminum looking cover, clearly visible when opening the hood, directly in front of my radiator fans)

i think you are talking about the heat sheild covering the front exhaust manifold. i think it would be a good idea to keep it seeing as it was most likely put there for a reason but you could try replacing the bolts. or find another shield and bolts at a junk yard

sounds like the heat sheild on the front manifold you can replace it its easy enough spray bolts with wd40 or pb blaster and unbolt and pull off replace with used or new

I have been doing more research and yes that's what it is, I thought replacing was a better way to go, Scrap yard trip this weekend thank you for the info
