• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

04 gt just dies after starting

Mirraco

One BadAzz GT Dawgg
Bought this car on monday, blew a coolant elbow yesterday on it, got it all fixed ect.

Before the coolant elbow, you turn the key to start, hear it start and then it dies??

It will keep doing this multiple times in a row, if you give it a little bit of gas, it stays running and runs like a top, actually runs really good considering it has 165K and just blew two gallons of coolant out of the broken coolant elbow.

Would this be a pressure regulator? thats the only thing i can figure, mabey a clogged fuel filter i really dont know.

I will note : The car did this before and after the coolant elbow issue, i have replaced the DIRTY air filter, it was orange and had leaves in the air box(my god), the car has no engine lights, i can step down on the gas and get it to go to 6k rpms with no engine light whatsoever, no skipping a beat at all, it runs great

Remove the throttle body and clean it, I bet the throttle blade is black as night.

All that build up can cause what you are seeing and a very comon issue with 04+ cars.

easy enough, any special products to clean the trottle body?, do i need to take it actually off or just clean inside of it
I should aswell throw a new throttlebody gasket on it while im at it.

Yes, take it off. It's only like 4 bolts, the rubber gasket can be used again, just clean it up some.

Unplug the throttle body, remove it and spray it down with carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Either will work and you can use a brush if you want aswell.

Just DO NOT open the throttle blade with your hands, clean in and around but it's not a good idea to push it open as it a electronic unit and sometimes they need a relearn when it's been opened.

Alright so i should be able to reuse the gasket, ill have to get some cleaner tomorrow and do it quickly. sounds like a 30 minute job to fix the problem.

Two hours of cleaning, and it was most of the way clean. The intake, my god is dirty as a whore. I need to seafoam this car, like 10 times.
