04 Grand Prix Radio Install

I have an 04 GTP without onstar or bose, what do i need to install an aftermarket radio. I know there are ones with chime and stuff, but I dont need that right?

i have just the basic harness and i wired it up but i need a place to tap into the RAP (retained accessory power)..

Where can i tap into RAP?

Get a wiring kit that hooks into the factory harness. That will give you RAP.

But seeing as you've already done that, I can't see why you don't already have RAP.

well i figured it out. I ran a wire to the fuse box and taped into the RAP relay. And the wiring harnesses on the 04+ dont have RAP built in. The red wire is there but there is no power. The wiring kit even said so, and gave a separate wire to tap into accessory power or RAP

Long as I have tunes I don't care about the time of day, week, or month :D Btw, if you look hard enough you can find wiring harness + RAP for ~$30. Talk to local audio shops. If they're any good they won't sell you that $100 p.o.s. GMOS-01

For others reading this thread, simply running your wiring harness "12v always on"(should be yellow) through a toggle switch to the radios 12v turn-on is the simplest way to bypass RAP. However, the radio responds to a switch now and you MAY or MAY NOT forget to turn it off before leaving the car ;P

They're tough to find. They have a built in speaker for chimes instead of the LOC that connects to the H/U speaker outs. It doesn't sound as high dollar as the factory H/U rap that outputs through your speakers but I think it's perfect!
