'04 grand prix gt engine pinging issues. Air flow or fuel?

Hello i'm a first time poster and need some advice.
I have a 04 grand prix Gt. 3800 and i have put a ram air hood on as well as a k&n cold air intake on.
with everything else stock i have found that every time i put the peddle down the engine is pinging like the timing is out.
It never had this problem till i put the cold air on.
Could this be because of the original exhaust?
Regular fuel?
Any ideas, from this mod, would help
Thanks

I'll need more info on that problem.

Are you in park or driving?

Happens when cold or warm?

Adding an aftermarket intake lets you hear alot of the motor noises that the stock baffles in the intake tube make non audible.

Your probably not gaining anything from having a ram air hood anyways. I sure hope you didn't spend that much money on the good for that reason.

Are you wanting to spend money to throw money away...exhaust isn't going to fix this issue neither is removing the cat. Is the CEL on by any chance.

Its a front wheel drive V6 with maybe 170 horsepower to the front wheels, does maybe 15-16 seconds in the quarter mile. Its not going care in the slightest about having a working ram air hood. Sadly the real life is not like the fast and furious movies.

Just as you said its just for looks.

Like I had said in my other posts, I bet if you put the stock intake back on the sounds will go away. The aftermarket intakes no longer have baffles or anything that GM designed to make the engine as quiet as possible, thus the reason why when installed they allow you to hear the motor working. Be it the air rushing past the filter or the lifter and rocker arm clacking away.

Alsong as you have no SES lights on and that the only thing going on, I'm still going to say its the intake.

Well seeing as how it's a K&N, maybe it wouldn't hurt to clean the MAF. Might have some oil from the filter built up on it causing weird things.
