04+ Grand Prix coolant bottle level

This has been eating at me.

I used to keep it wherever towards the top.
After replacing the o-rings on the metal elbows I decided to try and find the proper level.

Fill it to the hot level/fill it to the cold level, I can't get the cold level line in my head because it seems too low.

The line from the top to the bottom arrow ponts to a line. I guess thats the cold line.
Is this all we are supposed to keep in this tank.

Yeah, that bottom line is the cold mark. They want the level really low when cold so that as the coolant temp goes up it will push coolant into the overflow and raise the level by a few inches. They don't want a lot in there to begin with so it doesn't pour out the top.

I got tired of never seeing the line so I just fill it up over half way because I don't care.
 
Believe me this is really fvcking with me.
As far as I can tell there is no hot line
The manual says to fill it to the cold level but doesn't really say where just a lame picture of the engine bay with an arrow.

If that's cold below the hose nipple level, how does it flow into the radiator when needed.

My sharpie has made marks on the bottle for my preferred amount, roughly in the middle
I did have it blow out the overflow after filling it to the top of the line towards the cap.
 
The 97-03 cars do have a cold/hot line with marks, looks like the 04+ just have a cold line.

This is a good description of the cap and tank.

­­The radiator cap actually increases the boiling point of your coolant by about 45 F (25 C). How does this simple cap do this? The same way a pressure cooker increases the boiling temperature of water. The cap is actually a pressure release valve, and on cars it is usually set to 15 psi. The boiling point of water increases when the water is placed under pressure.

When the fluid in the cooling system heats up, it expands, causing the pressure to build up. The cap is the only place where this pressure can escape, so the setting of the spring on the cap determines the maximum pressure in the cooling system. When the pressure reaches 15 psi, the pressure pushes the valve open, allowing coolant to escape from the cooling system. This coolant flows through the overflow tube into the bottom of the overflow tank. This arrangement keeps air out of the system. When the radiator cools back down, a vacuum is created in the cooling system that pulls open another spring loaded valve, sucking water back in from the bottom of the overflow tank to replace the water that was expelled.
 
Thanks for looking that up.

I suppose the easy way would be to fill it up and self adjust by blowing out what it doesn't need.
