'04 Comp G - took a stiff one in the rear

So I started with this...

Don't be deceived by the clean engine bay, that cover hid one hell of a mess, and the rest was just as bad before I got to it

And this is about where I am now, a few hundred dollars, countless hours, and several busted knuckles (effin corrosion on every bolt EVER) later.

This is the first car I've ever really worked on, but it's coming along pretty nicely! Any thoughts? Not too sure where to go from here

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

take off the valve cover breather if you have a functioning pcv valve.

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

I probably should have explained that, lol. I was told that afterwards, but I really hate how the stock oil cap looks, so I pulled the breather apart and plugged it from the inside (silicone and a bolt threaded through the hole keeps it air-tight). It kept the look I wanted, but it still works like it should. I'm gonna replace it with a billet aluminum one eventually anyways, but this works fine for now

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Looks chit tons better....paint looks great,,,,nice glow
Headlights look surprisingly fresh(no uv coat deterioration)

I see your HUD crack from here.
Keep your eyes peeled for SPO grills and spoiler.

Save money for some tires and 18" wheels. and of course some springs.

Is it tinted...doesn't really look like it, but hard to tell.

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

That crack is the only reason I haven't torn into the dash to fix the HUD, I'm not gonna pull it apart until I have a new panel. I know my luck with plastic trim, and it isn't good, sun-dried or otherwise, lol. The headlights have some slight clear peeling (not noticeable from more than 3 feet away), and the grills and spoiler are at the top of my visual goals, along with an SE lip. I'm gonna get new tires when these wear out, but I haven't found any aftermarket wheels I really like as of yet. I may just have these restored if I can't find anything else. I'm thinking Vogtlands, I only want about an inch drop or so, the roads here are awful and this is my daily. No tint yet, but it's gonna come eventually. Future plans include SD headers, new exhaust tips, and some interior work (GXP aluminum handle inserts for sure), and lots of suspension goodies, including everything from BMR that'll fit on the car and some GXP struts if I ever come across any

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Oh I'm aware, lol. I've got nothing but time, though - this car isn't going anywhere, it'll forever be in the family. Oh well, you have to pay to play, that's for sure

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Nah, what gave you that idea? Lol. I thought at first that the diagonal brace logos may have been a bit much, but Grand Prix looked too much like those windshield banners and Competition Group didn't fit very well, so Supercharged kinda seemed like the most visually appealing option to go with (I wanted them to at least say something)

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Nice base to start with. Engine paint looks good. Where did you get those braces?

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Just black engine enamel and a red paint pen, it bakes on pretty nicely and is cheap! And the diagonal braces were from Don Rome at www.drcustomparts.com, he can make them with different things written on them, or just plain. Very durable and well-made, $95 shipped anywhere in the US if i remember correctly (it wasn't the same as on his site, but they're made a lot nicer now too, no decals - the words are etched in and painted whatever color you choose)

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Went out to start it today and it barely fired, then idled rough for a few seconds, then ran great. Started fine after that. It only sat for a few days, I cleaned the TB and MAF already, any clue what it could be? I'm at 93k on original plugs if that helps

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

Can't see how it would get in there but try using dielectric grease on the connections around the icm and coils

Re: '04 Comp G Resurrection

All gaskets are done, getting ready for a coolant flush next. Aluminum coolant elbows seem to be made well
