04 comp g, 5 psi boost wtf?

I installed a boost gauge today, it shows 20" vacuum at idle, but it only shows 5 psi at WOT. The factory boost bar graph goes all the way up though. How much boost are these cars suppose to have? I really hope its more than a lousy 5 psi lolz. BTW my car is bone stock.

And you would know this how? By reading 5 sentences, wow you're an idiot. FYI im an ASE certified Master Technician with lots of experience, I know WTF im doing Bio248. Anyway I'm a newb to this whole Grand prix world, i do not know the stock boost pressure therefore i was asking. Thank you to those that actually have a useful answer.

I'm going to tell you your gauge is wrong and you have 50PSI. The car is no faster or slower now, but are you happy now?

Seems like im stepping on some toes in here. I dont care whether i make 5 psi or 50, i just wanted to know what is normal for these cars. 5 psi seems like a pretty low number to me. Most supercharged cars tend to have around 8 psi. Sure less boost=better flow but if your boost is supposed to be a certain amount and is not reaching that amount, does that mean your engine magically became more efficient?

Then you "T"d it into the the correct line. What supercharged cars have you been around that make a happy median at 8psi?

All of these cars tend to be a little different...like stated...most of them range anywhere from 5-7psi bone stock...your factory boost gauge is worthless...and your real gauge is accurate. If you installed headers I'm sure it would possibly even drop. That is why people toss on smaller supercharger pulleys after flow mods...to get the boost back they "lost" due to a freer flowing motor.

89 thunderbird sc's make 10+ psi stock
03-04 cobra's have 8 psi stock
Cadillac XLR's run up to 12 psi stock

Cool, i guess im in the normal range, recently got this car, its got 84k seems well maintained, pretty cool daily driver, to me at least. Not trying to race it, i've got a 98 vette for that :) thanks to all that have positively helped.

was it hot out that day?

wait until you get it out on a cold night and you'll add 50% more boost on top of that as well as more timing.

Tearing a noob apart? Since when did this forum stop being soft? You guys giving him a hard time are retarded. He asked a legit question. Ace a lot of these guys are here because the real grand prix forum was too "rough" for them. I find it hillarious that they are trying to talk **** to anyone here.
