04 brakes

I'm unsure on F.

R are definately different in the non GXP models. They have the ebrake as part of the caliper where your 99 has it as a horseshoe POS MF'ing crappy setup that you have to dick with to do wheel bearings. I upgrade my 00 Regal to the 04 style.

ok i was just wondering about switching them cuz my 04 burnt and i just found the 99 and was gunna try and save anything i can from the 04

So if I want to do brake pads, rotors, i should just get calipers too, but all from a 04-08 for my 99?

What?

Just buy the pads and rotors for your year car and change them. You dont have to buy calipers unless you want to upgrade to the different style. Upgrading is purely up to you, its never needed.

For most guys..it might not be. I'm talking about the guy that is happy with status quo. For me, it was well worth it. I've changed a few rear wheel bearings and having to fight with rusted 6mm bolts on the backing plate and that dumb horseshoe ebrake (lucky if it actually holds anything) wasn't what I wanted from a car I planned on having for a while.

Hence..I did the swap to the 04-08 which incorporate the ebrake into the caliper design. This means that to change a wheel bearing it's much quicker and easier. It also means that Murphy's Law hasn't allowed one of my rear bearings to go bad in the last 49K miles. :th_thumbsup-wink:

04+ have bigger front brakes, they got what was called the single piston 12" upgrade as a apposed to the fbody dual piston 12" upgrade. The brackets will bolt up so if you want 04+ brakes your gunna need calipers, brackets, pads, and rotors. Going through all that work you should just go with the fbody brakes, but they require sleeves or for their brackets to be drill and tapped.

99-03 Front brakes - single piston sliding caliper, 11" rotors
04+ Front brakes - Single piston sliding caliper, 11.7" rotors (different calipers)

99-03 Rear brakes - e-brake in hub, 11" solid rotors
04+ Rear brakes - e-brake spring on caliper, 11" solid rotors
05+ Rear brakes GXP - e-brake in hub, 12" ventilated rotors

Spend money on decent rotors, don't cheapen out. I don't like drilled/slotted, I always have blanks. Pads again another area not to cheapen out; Ceramic's are good for street where you need cold bite.
