• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

04+ 3 Button DIC + Aftermarket Radio + Security System

ADrugDealer

Schooner Tuner
Just a PSE for anyone who wants to install an after market radio and a remote starter on their 04+ GP WITH the the 3 button DIC.

What happens?

1) Random loss of can bus (Oh yeah, thats fun while driving, all the sudden your needles hit 0, no TC/ABS/Security/Tuning/Scanning/Fuel/RPM or anything on the CAN bus.
2) DIC Reporting "Service Theft System"
3) DIC Reporting "Starting disabled due to theft system"
4) Odd behavior on scanning
5) No date displayed (This will happen with only an aftermarket radio)

Why?

Apparently, a lot of the cars functions are controlled by the factory head unit and since the car is looking for that head unit it will get very angry when it cant find it.

What is the fix?

You have two options...

1) Get a 5 Button DIC. This might work, I have not yet tested it, but in theory the 5 button will take over the controls the radio once did. NOTE: You will still not have a date on your DIC with this method as the date is pulled from the head unit.

2) Relocate factory head unit in trunk of vehicle. You have to extend some wires from the factory harness, I forget which but ill find the notes I have and I will post them. This method will require a speaker mounted under the dash for door chimes and what not.

I would do one of the options above even if you are not installing a remote started. I had no problems but a lot of people have had problems in general with just a radio.

Either something is wired wrong or you need a GMOS adapter. I've got a 3 button with a Kenwood Excelon and a Viper remote start and all I lose is the calender function, because it's contained in the radio.

Check your wiring and think about getting a GMOS-1 or 4 adapter.

I have the GMOS, its intermittent. I have almost the exact same setup and there was a service report thing for this issue at Best Buy. It also depends on which remote start you have. I have Vipers top of the line one and the CAN bus fights with it.
