01 GTP shakes while accelerating. HELP!

I have an 01 stock GTP. It has recently started shaking while under moderate acceleration especially when I have several people in the car. Any ideas on what might be causing the problem? THANKS!

When I got new tires a couple months ago Bell Tire did mention I had a CV Joint going out. They also mentioned a tie rod needing to be replaced. Would that be at all related and cause the symptoms as well? Out of curiosity why do you recommend replacing both?

Tie rod end most likely isn't contributing to the oscillation, but still worth replacing then doing alignment. When the CV joint wears out it can have play in the joint, so when you apply torsional load to the joint/shaft it creates an unbalance and thus your wobble. But when the load is reduced on the axle, it returns to center and is balanced. That is why it only shakes on accel. I had the same issue when I purchased my GTP. I recommend both, just because I like to do thi gs in pairs. Chances are if one is going bad, the other is on it's way.

Any recommendations on what brand of cv axle? What am I looking at for the pricetag of this fix? Would you recommend me doing this myself? Any good writeups that you know of?
 
I would recommend acdelco. Reman shafts are kinda luck of the draw. Not sure on price. If you can do your own brakes, you could probably tackle this with a write up. You could try the search, i don't know of any write ups off hand.

You can visually check them by looking at the boots on the inner and outer joints. If they are wet or slinging grease everywhere then that's the one to change. The only way I found I had a bad pass. side inner joint was by accident. I leaned on the shaft while doing something else under there and heard a clunk. Pressing down on the shaft showed I had play in the inner joint that was causing a horrible vibration on accel and any speed above 50.

My mechanic thinks that it is a back motor mount that is causing the CV axel to be off causing the vibration. what do you think about this?
 
It could very well be the motor and trans. mounts. If it is sitting lower than required the axle geometry will be off, thus causing a vibration. If you take a look at your motor mount (under the balancer area) and see a bunch of black liquid goo then your mount has failed, as they a fluid filled from the factory.

FYI- There is no "back" motor mount on these cars. There is a motor mount up front under the balancer, a trans mount on the drivers side (under the trans, duh, lol..) and the 2 dogbone mounts you see when you open the hood.
 


Ford man is correct, was lowered on intrax once and shook after the install. Took the motor mounts out and they were toast. New mounts fixed it. That is of course if you are lowered.


BTW if your replacing one, Might as well replace both. Drivers side mount is the trans mount. The passenger side mount usually looks the worse depending on oil leaks and such.
 
I've got an SE that had the same problems and the same fixes. The CV got ripped up from the motor mount failing. It's right below the belt side of the engine, so if your crank seal has any kind of leak going, the oil will drip down and eat away at the rubber in the motor mount.

Another sign you may have a bad engine mount is when you shift from reverse to drive, or from drive to reverse, you hear a clunk sound under the hood.
