01 GT Fan Blower Controls Burned Out!?!?

Ok, so for a year or two 1 and 2 chose to not work. Well this past week, 3 and 4 gave out too. So 5 is the only one that works. This is the manual HVAC controls for the coupe (driver/passanger controls). My question is, did the fan(s) blow out or what I am thinking, is the switch going bad (and why?) Is there anything I can do, do I need to replace something, is this common/anyone else experiencing this? Any info would help! Thanks, Sam.

It is probably best to wait a little longer the a couple hours...:th_scratchhead:

Your problem is common!!

Use the "Search"

You will find your answer with a little research :th_thumbsup-wink:

I think there are two possibilities on this and it is a common issue pretty well documented on several forums. First look on this and other forums for Blower Resistor. You'll find plenty of references.
It could be the blower resister depending on the symptom. If you have water leaking in to the passenger side it may be the resistor pack got wet. Given that yours failed on position 1 and 2 then later 3 and 4 it may very well be this. There are instructions on how to replace it just do a little searching. Since I didn't have this issue I don't know how difficult it is to R&R it. But this would be a clue.

I see Oreilly has the resistor pack or the dealer would for sure.

If you have issues with water leakage check out the new water deflector you can get on this forum. Water Leak the permanent fix. Even though I don't have a leak yet I got one to mitigate this when it warms up

It could be the ignition switch. The clue for me was that when it would fail the Daytime Running Lights would not light up and the blower would not work. I replaced mine. I got the ignition switch from Orielly . Mine was intermittent depending on the weather. Then it got real cold and stopped all together. Not good in January around here.

Here a procedure to fix it but I just replaced the entire switch assembly. I didn;t want to work on it twice so I just replaced it.

This procedure took me about 2 hours and I did not have the little female torxs drivers and I replaced those screws (the ones that hold the switch on the column) with 2 common screws from the hardware store. Since then it's been working great.
Good luck!

blower resistor, I think it's about $12.00 or so. prepare your self to get up side down in the passanger side. You can reach it and remove it. phillips head I think. I went through the same exact thing on my '02 GP, first 1 and 2 and then 3 . . . .
good luck!
