just picked up a 2000 gtp and no drive no reverse tranny has a whine noise till put in gear previous owner had pan dropped and fluid filter change at that time the mechanic found 2 dime sized pieces of metal in the pan anyways they put new fluid and filter in it and fluid was clean he drove it another 3k miles and now the new tranny fluid looks like diesel oil so im guessing its burning..., I know its toast but just wondering what has happened to it what could those metal pieces might be off of and he said it would slip and he would give it a little gas and it would slam into gear to add to the equasion. thanks for the info guys any bit helps

figured something like that is this sort of a common problem with the 4t65e and hd? or just from someone beating the hell out of it till it throws its guts.

4T65e and 4T65e-HD are about 98% the same, pretty much the diff/gear ratio is the only thing different.

It's a fairly common issue to loose either just D and 3 but have 1-2 work on the shifter and or sometimes all forward gears alltogether. Kinda just a ticking time bomb after so many miles.

ill get it home and get it taken apart and see what I can find looks like a decently easy job for a rebuild. little off topic I was just through rogers about 30 minutes ago small world.. thanks for the info btw

If there was a picture of the dime sized parts, we could likely ID them. I can't think of anything that might hit the pan looking like that.

and db performance to hahah and as far as the chunks he just tossed them away that was the first thing I asked to see so no luck there but imo if there is chunks like that the whole trans is probably scrap because like you said where did it come from.. wont lose any sleep from it build it right this time around if no major damage to the case if not remove and replace thanks again

clutch friction plates and steels are toast. barely any material on any of the frictions and there bent inward and there suppose to be flat but im guessing that's typical when everything lets go. and the 4th gear hub with the wore out splines toast as well.. spent the last couple days digging and cleaning the gunk and crud out of the case and off the hard parts with carb cleaner. chunks of material were what was in the pan the previous owner came across so that answered my own question. so just got to order a master rebuild now and hopefully my first tranny rebuild will be a success
