00 grand prix heating issue

Hey Guys,
My 00 grand prix says that the exterior heat is 101 when I start up the car and it wont go back to normal temperature until I begin driving. Also whether or not i warm my car up before driving, the windows fog up on the inside and stay like this for about 20 mintues. it seems like it takes forever for them to defog and the air coming out makes the entire car very hot. Seems hotter than it should be. any suggestions? I've thought about the thermostat but not for sure...

If the EXT temp is WAY WAY higher or lower than the real temp outside, the sensor is bad. A dealership will have a new one for 10-20 bucks. That sensor can screw with the climate control.

K cool thanks. I was reading something about a sensor so I'll replace that while I'm at it. I also think I could need a new heater core because I'm also loosing coolant, but just a little bit.

If the coolant is not leaking anywhere and is just gone, think intake gaskets. Its a very common issue to for the car to start eating coolant with the old plastic gaskets. New metal style gaskets fix the issue.

But if you are seeing coolant on the ground or in and around the motor, find said leak and fix it.

when my heater core started leaking, it caused my car to become a rolling sauna with my windows never really becoming fog free. I lost 1/2 - 3/4 gallons of dex, before I even noticed the passenger floor being wet and slimy.

Yes I have already fixed the intake gaskets not too long ago, but still have a problem with the windows fogging and not being able to get them to defog (only when really cold temp). I've heard that this is a common problem when your heater core is bad.. have you guys heard of this? Also like I said I'm loosing some coolant but its not on the ground or on top of the engine but you can always smell it when I get out of the car so must be something small leaking and it getting burned off while driving? Does anyone have this problem with their car? I know the intakes are common and the major problem to get serviced but other than that haven't heard anything and I still smell coolant after the cars been running...

id try not to use bars stop leak unless you really dont care about your engine.

pull up your carpet and see if its wet under there. the rug as lots of foam under it and it can soak up and hide coolant. if the floor is wet with coolant, your core is leaking.

you can also check the hoses on the out side of the firewall to the core. mine were old and swollen and not sealing tight, one hose leaked down the pad on the fire wall, somehow it made the windshield fog up. i did find it leaking and it would drip right on the DP, so it would steam off before it could leak to the ground.
