• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Should've done the work myself!

I took my car to a recomended shop to have a Home Depot lumber cart incident fixed. I had an insurance check to cover it. I needed to have my air dam and trunk deck painted also. So anyway I get a quote for "out of pocket" Sounded reasonable so I left my car. I picked it up Friday, they jacked the price 200 bucks which I am going to fight BTW.
When I get home and park it in the sun I begin to look it over. Well I notice a fish eye, then another then another, a dozen later I am pissed off. :th_angry-cussing:Then I notice the trunk lid had paint missing on one edge, the buffer burned one edge on the trunk lid.:th_shakinghead2: The sander knicked my black pillar between the two doors. I open the trunk and there is over spray in the rain channel outside the weather stripping, plus over spray on the weather stripping.:th_wtf: Then I otice my tailight lenses are messed up. Mine are tinted and I painted the top moulding peice black and clear coated it. They mustve oversprayed on it because it was dull like someone scrubbed he heck out of it. And on one there still was red paint on part of it. Oh and I have overspray inside my door jambs.:th_angry2::th_bangheadonwall:
The kicker is I stressed many times, before I left the car, that I show the car and need show quality work done.

Earl Sheib $99 special FTL. j/k. Man that sucks, when the work done leaves your car in more distress than the orginal condition. I say put it to them.

fish eyes show poor prep work or you use too much silicone (I bet no wax and grease remover was used) next time try and get it delivered under flourecent lights, they show more flaws than sunlight

did you sign the papers when you picked up the car? my parents are stressing to me look over the car with a fine tooth comb. cuz once you sign for it....they pretty much dont have to do anything.

Good luck!!!!!!!! I hope you get them to redo the work!!!

There aren't many good body men anymore period. I had to ***** and moan to get my damn hood and spoiler painted right. I dread the day (hope its never honestly) I have to get the car repainted. I expect a flawless finish, i'm super picky too. Honestly, nobody wants to do good work anymore, especailly when it comes to paint and body.

Sorry for you troubles. ***** and get the BBB on your side if you have to. Maybe even further, show him you mean business. Good luck...

too many shops are production only, and forgot how to do quality work. First sign of a production shop is cars are bing worked on with mud anywhere on them. I worked at one, and were were told not to fix anything that wasn't specified on the work order (including rock chips)

Well, we went round and round. He tried to blame the blemishes on previous existing conditions, ie chips small dings. I called BS since I know every inch of my car. His excuse for the over spray in the trunk was they couldnt figure out how to get my remote to pop the trunk. Now granted I have a new alarm, but the trunk pop is obvious. he said they stuffed paper in as far as they could. My reply was " is your phone broken? Because if you dialed 7 digits I couldve told you how to open the trunk" He offered to repaint and fix all issues after much arguing. I declined to fix my tails as I dont trust them. He is refunding part of the bill instead.
I dread when I decide to get the whole car done. This shop was highly recomended by a few people and area businesses. I thought I did my homework. This guy has been in business for 40 years. Unbelievable!!

when I had insurance work done, the shop over in Schaumburg did a great job, the only weird thing is on the paper work it states that they replaced the bumper cover, but it is def the original repaired.... but insurance paid for it.... If you want good body work you need to know someone or do it yourself, At least they are fixing it for you

You need to look around for a good shop & ask them to see some work they are doing 99% of the shops will show you right then.. Glad to see the shop will redo it for you... If you lived in MA I would gladly help you out with the complete repaint...

I know how you feel Dave last two times
i took my car in i have had to go back
with the kick your ass attitude for a job they should have done the first time.
and one bozzo wanted to get payed again for work they screwed up..
and they still screwed up..
Get a clip board and mark out every thing you want to have done..
when i say everting i mean everything
inside gas lid inside trunk lip ect or these areas will not recieve paint...
make a sketch of the car pointing out stone chips and body work to be done
stress the fact that you will not take second best that all work will be done
to a perfect perfection as for the payment price mentioned by them
have them walk around the car with you and have them note the areas
that you have concern with...
have two copys of this to be signed by both
and never pay them before the work is done to as you want..
If they refuse to sign this then you just saved yourself a big headack for sure.
If they do this is a contract and will hold up in court..
Make sure you also get a quote on paper from them before leaveing
and get them to sign it this way no matter what they do after this it is still in the quote and that is what you pay...
Might seem like alot of B.S. but it will sure save on white knuckles..
Good luck on the paint job for the car...
John

Good points. This time I did walk the car with the owner and had green painter's tape cut into arrows noting all the mistakes. I guess I am lucky they agreed to fix it. I learned a good lesson. next time I want to see work they do first and yes the diagram and having them sign it is a great idea.
He confessed to me they rushed my job because his body guy called off 2 days and his painter took 3 days off. I said no excuse, shouldve called me then. That explains the trunk issues. New guy or inexperienced guy trying to do my car And fill in for the 2 that called off work.
I told the owner he better watch over the car closely because if not he isnt going to enjoy dealing with me next time. He assured they'll make it right.
Just a shame you have to go through this to get work done right. Today I found a high end detail shop. He had a few nice custom painted rides in his lot awaiting detailing. I am going to stop by and see who his clients had do their paint.

the reason the shop did that is to collect money from the insurance company...in other words they got paid 300.00 for a new bumper from the insurance company and fixed your stock one for probably 30.00 with some 3M epoxy....pretty cool huh??:th_nervous:

and if you point it out they can get in trouble for charging for work not done, and parts not used (insurance fraud)

thats exactly what it is...insurance fraud...happens a lot more than we realize in body shops ect...another example would be going to a glass shop with a reapirable chip in your winshield and you have full coverage on the vehicle.if you have full coverage usually glass ded. is 50.00 regardless if its a repair or replacement.glass shop charges the insurance company for a replacement and only does the repair...used to work for geico so i know lol :th_winking:

ARCHEMEDES- just curiouse how that stock gtp does in the quarter with just the cam...you got a time on it yet??
