    Growling and grinding

    I have a 4t65e-hd trans taht has a grinding or growling sound in 1st and 2nd gear. it seems to disappear completely in 3rd and 4th. Any ideas on where to start? thrust bearings or roller bearings? any ideas would be welcome.
