Spectre Air filter

Who is this guy?
I looked at previous threads and saw that this was a good filter. I did see that everyone said to use dry flow filters because the oiled ones screw with the mass air flow sensor. The one I found at Advance Auto Parts is $20 and black. Says in the description that it comes pre-oiled from the factory. All the black ones I found said that they were pre-oiled. I want a black one because they look better in my opinion. My question is, will a Spectre air filter say in the description that it's a dry flow one or do they all say pre-oiled? Oh and it has 3" flange, is that gonna fit around the stock intake tube?

Only when people clean them and soak it with too much oil or don't allow it to dry prior to running engine!

Then it'd just be a floppy mess.

Either spend the $30~ on fleabay to get some hard pipe to extend off the throttle body. If it was a supercharged car I'd just tell you to bolt the filter on the end of the throttle body. With the N/A car, I'd tell you to make a decent intake for it. It sure wouldn't hurt anything.
 


What if when I go to clean it, I don't oil it, just wash it out. Will that harm anything, or does have to be oiled regardless? I don't want to spend the extra money on an AEM DryFlow filter because you don't gain that much from these intakes and spending $30 more would be a waste of money in the end.
 
They need to be lightly oiled in order to catch small particles. Just don't over oil them. Just a light line down each rib and allow it to sit so that it wicks to the bottom of the pleat.

I found an AEM DryFlow on CARiD for about $30. Do you think I should get this one over the Spectre filter?
 


You don't have to oil the filter, it'll run fine. I'm running a 9" spectre with no oil for a while now. No issue
 
Wipe a white paper towel inside your intake tube - is it dirty?

more air flow or more filtration. Can't have both is what I found
 
Yeah, that 9 inch is way too long (that's what she said). I'm looking for something around the 6 inch region. I'll go with the Spectre filter if I have to, but if I can get a good deal on an AEM I'll go with that. How does dirty air compare to clean air? I mean if you have an increase flow of air from before and it's dirtier than normal, wouldn't that not really matter? I mean obviously cleaner air is better, but if you have a lot more air that's getting sucked in the engine that's a bit dirtier it shouldn't make a difference.

When you first bought it (considering it was brand new), it should've came oiled. That didn't have any problems, or did you just wash it off right away?
