New to the forum here and was wondering if anyone can advise why my tranny is slipping at wot from 2-3 gear. In first it shutters at WOT (1-2) at cool temps but when warmed up it will slip if I get on it, only from 2-3. If I drive normal it will go in every gear smoothly; Except on a hot day when I'm sitting in traffic then it will start jumping in every gear until I shut it off for a while. Also my transmission fluid is burnt(Brown in color) and its only been 15000 miles since I changed it. I've already added 2 bottles of Lucas during the 15k miles(to help with slippage) and its already burnt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah and when I bought the car it had 140k miles. It now has 155k

It does sound like your clutches are no longer holding the power. Probably time to start scouting for a newer trans.

Wow.. I was afraid of that lol. So is it even worth me changing the fluid? Will that extend the life or make it last longer? I do have about 700 bucks saved up but used trannys here in Fl are iffy for me because of this hot weather. I thought about selling it but I'd rather buy another car b4 selling my baby!

From what i've seen its normal for the trans to go around 100,000 miles. Time to get a new one or get it rebuilt.

I couldn't tell you honestly.. I just bought my first car and i'm new to all this stuff haha. I have a 99 GTP with 119,000 miles and bought it with a rebuilt trans. It's been working great. You've just gotta find a trustworthy person to rebuild it so you know they'll do a good job. I had someone screw me over once and we payed for the rebuild then just a couple weeks later we went somewhere else and just bought a whole new trans. I imagine a rebuild is cheaper than a new one. You've just gotta find someone you trust to do it. Get a warranty on it if you can. The guy that did mine gave me one. Make sure you get it on paper and signed though or they'll screw you over if it goes bad.

Most rebuilds are typically at least $1000 including labor. It's a lot of time.

Have you considered hitting up the local LKQ JY and getting one for a couple hundo then dropping it in yourself? I'm a believer that if you have a jack, couple stands, a piece of 4x4 and chain it's no so bad.

I've heard of LKQ but never really looked into them we have a junkyard called U Pull & Pay. Their trannys are 125 plus 55$ core. U have to pull the tranny yourself. They have the engine lift there already you just have to bring your own tools and pull it yourself.. I'm book smart about engines but when it comes to doing the work I don't know $#!+ haha.

Well, It's my feeling that if you have some basic tools and some drive, you can do it.

That's step by step with tools needed.

I see it as jack it up and support
    Loosen a bunch of bolts
    Lower out trans
    Lift new trans
    Put bolts back in
    Put back on ground

That's what happened to Drunkies car this past weekend.
