    Should I get carbon cleaning for my air intake (burns away all the junk that builds up, what I was told)? Its $80 (normally $130) in feb at the shop I take my car or is it a scam? I might be calling it wrong, but it when they burn off all the junk the builds up in your air flow system. I plan on getting hv3 air intake inserts, a down pipe and a reprogrammed PCM afterwards. Whole reason why I am considering it.

    Yeah, it's called seafoam.

    It's a $10 can at your local autoparts store.

    That, and when you install the HV3, clean the throttle body and delete the EGR. That'll take away any chance of future carbon build up issues...

    take your TB off and clean it for the price of cleaner and a gasket.

    unless your talking about a injector cleaning, thats a whole different story.

    Ima a noob, I have no idea and I do not know how to do any of the things you guys suggest, so frustrating being a noob lol! All I want is more acceleration!!!

    Yes you did. I read part of it. did not get to read the whole thing. allot of the stuff on their sound like chinese to me, that how much of a noob I am when it comes to cars. I really Really want to learn this but I can't understand it. Getting frustrated That why I did not read whole thing yet, I get frustrated half way through, because I'm like "" I need find someone in person that can walk me though step-by-step, when it comes to learning this advance stuff! (advance to me that is!)

    he would be referring to the air intake tube from the air box, where the air filter is, you need to take the tube off, its clamped to the TB. its a hose clamp. you will need a set of security torx bits, 5 or 6 bucks for a cheap set at the parts store. to remove most of the sensors. you want to remove your MAF sensor, the one on top of the TB because spraying anything but maf cleaner on the MAF will kill it.

    The exhaust crossover.

    I suggest seriously googling everything.

    I knew nothing ten years ago...and I'm still learning. That's how I learned...I did tons of research and reading. I also had plenty of trial and error with these cars too...it's how it works.

    It's not a lot of work...it removes all the corbon build up in the TB...it's the same concept with cleaning anything...works better, more efficiently, smoother airflow and less gunk = better throttle response from what I've seen.

    Regardless if it's a GT or a GTP...it does the same thing.

    you dont really need to lay any rags down, some coolant will leak out when you take the TB off, your making more of this then you need to.

    take pics as you go, take your time. you'll be happy when you saved 80 bucks.


    its 3 bolts and few clips and things. its easy compared to a lot of things.


    if your just supper chicken. i understand.

    what you can still do is remove the maf sensor, the intake tube, and the screen, then use a old toothbrush and a shop rag to reach in and clean the TB, you want to clean it as best as you can all the way around behind the butterfly flap there, (the brass plate) hold it open and clean the back of this flap too and its edges best you can. this helps but you wont get it as clean vs taking it off and cleaning it.

    Works for me! One problem.... what if I can't figure out/remember how to put it back together! Only thing making me nervous lol!

    I am OCD,so I rater take it off and clean the whole TB or not clean it at all!! I'll try it, I might try it, I have to get the tools you where telling me to remove the air intake thing and cleaners. I got the tools for the rest. I will take pictures if I need help and post them and ask you guys any questions I have. I have a bad habit of over complicating things. I keep you guys updated. I am broke this week, maybe next week I hope Thanks guys for the help and support!

    you can pass on the shop for a cleaning if you do this.

    the amount of coolant you will loose is small, just check the level in the rad, and bleed the air out via the bleeder valve on the t stat housing.

    When I was N/A, I didn't lose any coolant removing the TB.

    When I had a S/C, the car was cold...and I still didn't lose any coolant...hell I didn't even lose any coolant removing the alt. bracket when doing rockers way back when...most people can't seem to figure out that there are easy ways to not make a mess, LOL.
