New guy in Colorado

Greetings, all.

I'm a present Gen II 3800 owner (a Buick). After I did the UIM/LIM update/refit, the car has served me long and well... despite a cold start knock probably due to long term bearing corrosion due to coolant in the oil and that being ignored by PO.

Car still runs great, just a little noisy for the first 2 seconds if it sits for a few days. 124k on it, doesn't use a drop of oil, gets great gas mileage and has good power. <-- Though not terribly powerful due to where I live at high altitude... hence why I'm here!

I early retired in 2-2004 and live in a modest home in the mountains. I'm into cars, motorcycles and guns. Fairly heavy background in cars.

I'm pokin' around in here and USING THE SEARCH TOOL and reading many threads to check out durability of the Gen II or III supercharged Grand Prix's. Thinkin' of finding the ever elusive low miler and buying that up if the supercharged cars are anywhere near as durable as the n/a cars.

After I've searched a lot and read a lot more threads, I hope to post up some reasonably intelligent questions. Might even start a thread if I don't find one or two something similar to: "Stock Supercharged Gen II/Gen III Grand Prix - DURABILITY".

But I'm guessing that's already in here. So, to work.

Thank you to all for the nice website and expansive knowledge base! :th_thumb-up:

Welcome! Got any pics of the Buick, or your past rides? As far as the durability of the supercharged cars, IMO the only thing to be concerned about is the transmission. For the most part, the engines are bulletproof.

J2S,

Thanks very much for the info. I wondered how the 4T65E would tolerate the supercharged engine's hp and torque.

I haven't posted pics here before. I'll give it a shot. My Buick is pretty mundane, so I'll instead see if I can post up a 32 Roadster I sold to a guy in Australia about 3 years back.

This is the last moderately high buck hotrod I'll probably do because of limited funds in early retirement. I was quite a bit heavier then and it was in the Rio Grande Valley in TX:

Or here is a more recent pic of me a bit more fit and with a dualsport bike I modded all to heck. Fun little bike. This is after I moved back home to Colorado and it's the front yard of where I live here in the CO mtns.

The vehicles aren't anything all that special.

The rodney has a zz383 mill, 9" ford w/detroit locker, bla bla. The bike has an auto clutch that makes it easy and fun for me to ride in some fairly rough stuff.

Saw your pic in sig line of your car. Looks great! Any other pics of interest to share?

Thanks for the welcome to the site!

Kind regards,

Michael S.
