• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

New to GP

Hey everyone. I'm new to the GP world (and forums in general), so any criticism is welcome.

I'm currently out of Raytown MO!

Purchased a 2002 GP GT for $200 and then proceeded to blow probably around $2500 fixing it....
Had a blast! (although my wife is less than pleased! haha)
Not a lot of cool mods to brag about but here they are (or at least the one's I remember):

-04+ GP leather seats (dual heated seat too)
-04+ GP L26 aluminum upper intake manifold
-good ol' ebay ss headers
-high flow cat
-20 thou over pistons
-upgraded and rebuilt transmission with shift pack
-short ram intake (I know, CAI coming soon)
-chevy blazer PCM tray
-***dual digital climate control swap*** (will post a how-to once I figure out all the kinks)
-big 4 upgrade
-bose amp added (I know... but I got it for $5!)
-Digital DIC and HUD (boy that was a job)
-front AND rear strut tower braces
-catch can
-auto dimming rear view mirror
-many other things I am forgetting and many others planned

I have completely stripped and rebuilt from the bare block up (with the help of a machine shop for the boring, honing, and balancing) the engine, and rebuilt and installed the 4T65E transmission (replaced EVERY wear part including bushings).

Basically, I'm insane (my wife would agree) about this car... (or just in general)

Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try to respond. I've stripped down pretty much everything to the frame at least once so chances are, I'll be able to help!

Hopefully I'll get around to taking pictures (right now I'm upgrading cloth to leather so it looks really ugly...)

OH MISSOURI THINGS.

It's too bad you're about 5+ years behind all of us jumping ship from the 3800 game. Used to be a huge presence in the KC metro area.

Yeah... I always wanted a grand prix, but never had the chance (or the money). Wish there were more near Kansas City as I'm sure I could learn a lot. For now, I think I'll name mine "The GT that wants to be a GTP" since I quite literally have done everything but a top swap.

Sad to hear I'm late on the train though!

Welcome to GPF. There's still some good GP's out there, just not as many being built like pointed out. You have fun building YOUR car and f the rest. If you like it, rock it.

I hope that rebuilt motor lasts for you. Looks like you put the needed work into it. Although if it does eat itself again I'd just pick up a low mile used one and swap it in and be monies ahead. Would have left over money towards other mods.

Thanks FordMan77. I'm hoping it will last too!

I agree that I should have swapped a low mile engine, and would do that if I could do it again. Unfortunately I was feeling ambitious and wanted to learn more about engine building.

Not to say the knowledge gained wasn't worth it, but might not have been the best time to do it.... I just wish I knew about the transmission problem before hand, but you know how the saying goes....

Sadly my wife is a bit less than enthusiastic with the project, so I might be on hold for a while... but I'm sure that's a common tale around here!

If anyone has any relatively cheap mods they could recommend, I'd definitely appreciate the input!
