Time to start saving for a GTP

Ive been researching (and probably making more threads than necessary) what it would take to make my 97 GT dependable and somewhat fast and I am starting to think it is alot more trouble than its worth. So I am going to start putting money back for a GTP. Any suggestions on what year to look for? Ive heard 99'-02' models are the ones to look for but I wanna hear some opinions. Granted its going to be A LONG TIME before I have enough for one in decent condition.

What do you want to do with it?

If modding at all, get a 98-00.
01+ lack perf shift (jekyll and hyde modes as i call it), and are a pain to tune due to an added cat check which dumps fuel.

If you can swing it and plan on staying mostly stock, get a 04+

97-03 are wonderful for modding. They're better than the 04+. BETTER I SAY. I'LL CUT YOU. I mean...yah, they're better.

99 is the best year. It's got all the updated parts before they started changing stuff for the worse.

01 cat efficiancy test is easy to get a round buy a 2000 PCM. that is what i did with my 01 GT

and perf shift is meh i leave it on all the time any way. the 99 does not even have a functioning perf shif it is "on" all the time becuase of the tune

If you are going to save for a GTP then why not just use that money for a turbo kit and put it on your GT.

and be just as fast as he is now?

it would sound fast at least (this si if he gets a 96-98 car. a 99-04 would be faster than a NA 3800 still slower then a GTP)

Yeah the ones Ive seen around here are driven by tools. Typical flat-bil hats turned side ways with a Polo on. And there is one down the road from me with almost every badge for every trim package on it. (Boss, Cobra, GT, SVT, Shelby, 302) and its like a 98 model
