But GPF seems to have more "OMG GRANDPRIX FOREVER" than the other forums I frequent.
It's not just a GPF problem. It's the average L67 GP owner, period. Forget OTHER cars. They don't even want to see GPs that came before their body style, or aren't equipped with a supercharger from the factory, much less other makes and models. I've been active on w-body sites for almost 10 years now, and I noticed the attitude right away when I joined ClubL67 (as I call it) and it's local chapter. While everything about the car was broken down into categories for the '97 & up, the '88 - '96 had just one forum to cover everything about the car.
I still remember going to the ILGPC Casper's Electronics mod day meet years ago. The guy who ran the site (I think his name was John), and one other guy were cool. The rest? Someone asked me which car was mine, and another guy I had talked to earlier decides to answer for me by saying, "he has the OLD Grand Prix". :th_angry2: On the ILGPC boards, I posted a w-body.com meet once, which at the time was mostly Gen I w-bodies, to which one of the female members responded "I can't make it, I'm shaving my ass that day". :th_shakinghead2: The last straw was when the owner of the site started a thread stating he needed some help with a '94 GP he bought, and one of the members responded with "we don't deal with pre '97s". :th_wtf: That was it. I PMed my e-mail to John and offered to help him, told the rest of the site what I thought about their god complex over their GTPs, and never visited that site again.
I've also never been on a site for any platform or model of car where almost all the members not only have just one era of that platform/model, but worse yet, call the generation that came before it "pregen". This term "pregen", which originated on ClubGP years ago, makes absolutely no sense. That is why it's not in the vernacular of any true car enthusiast. It's either Gen I (in reference to the generation of w-body), or Gen 5 GP, NOT "pregen".
Besides the whole hatred towards anything prior to the Gen 6 GP, AND even "current gen" GTs, I noticed most of them really didn't know much about cars in general. The fact that most owners think the almighty L67, a supercharged 3.8L 6-cylinder which produces a whopping 240hp, was god's gift to the automotive world was only part of what gave that away. I was astonished to see most didn't have basic "car guy" knowledge. I remember when the guy that owned Casper's posted a pic of the lightening rods from a 442 asking what they were called, and no one could answer. They showed no interest for anything that wasn't a '97 & up GP with a supercharger (or they'd let a turboed GT slide). And even if you had an approved car, the guys on ILGPC talked as much (if not more) about where they were meeting up to get drunk as they did about GTPs.
So basically, what I gathered from forums back then was that most GP sites are basically a gathering of alcoholic domestic ricers that just all happen to own Grand Prix GTPs. It's the reason I held off buying a Gen II GP for a long time. I didn't want to be associated with that crowd. That being said, this is by far the most laid back of the GP specific sites I've ever been on, which is why it's the only one I frequent anymore, but apparently even here, the attitude is prevalent (I don't visit too often anymore, so I wasn't aware of the extent till I saw this thread).
