• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Running rich at idle, causing idle issues.

It seems as if it either misses or backfires massive spurt of KR (2-5*) then back to normal and does it again.

This is after I get between 3-5 lbs into it.

For those who dont know the car, its a top swap with headers.

The car doesnt seem to do this when pulling from first gear but then does it when pulling from second gear.

For the moment, I'm running 14* of timing till this is sorted out.

At first the car recorded actual misfires, regapped the plugs to 0.050 and then the misfires were gone but not the KR nor the studdering.

Going to try wires (warranty) next, then ICM (possibly free) then coils (wrecker).

Edit: this part makes me think its mechanical: It shows KR when in neutral coasting and revving it. Is that normal?

Re: backfire? when in boost

False. Check to see if something is hitting somewhere...EG, bad motor mounts, downpipe...flip your front sway bar upside down and test it again.

Re: backfire? when in boost

what was left of my catback was banging against the bracket holding the e-brake cable near the rear suspension.

Thats off now.

Noticed it was running like it had a vac leak at idle so I went spraying, EGR tube is broken so its off to the wreckers.

Hopefuly these two things solve my issue.

Re: backfire? when in boost

new EGR tube.

No KR with no catback but still backfires?

Im going to get a stock catback ASAP.

Oh and those stupid pacesetters welded.... possibly into a two piece.

Re: backfire? when in boost

i was backfiring when my pacesetters were leaking real bad and I had vac leak at egr.

Re: backfire? when in boost

Welded pacesetters worked great for me on reinstalls too as long as you have something to ratchet the motor forwards or your buddy to pull on the motor...the rear/dp section will just slide right in...I'm tellin ya to flip your swaybar though...

I did not have to flip mine, but my pacecrappers have been welded so much its ridiculous.

Re: backfire? when in boost

mine back fires with leaking pacesetters. weld/seal them up real good. should take care if that issue if there is no leaks.

Re: backfire? when in boost

Just so I know (since I dont have a catback ATM) if the headers were sealed, and the car ran with no catback, it would not backfire?

Re: backfire? when in boost

So either the exhaust leak or the ICM was at fault.

Headers are poorly band clamped on, leak slightly and no backfire or cutting out when in boost. ICM also changed.

Now the car when at idle behaves like it has a vacuum leak. Up and down and up and down in engine speed till it gets down to 400-500 then back up to a grand then I have to give it gas else it dies.

Cleaned the MAF and I'm going to scan for codes in a minute and will update this thread.

Also note the MAP sensor is reading 21" of vac and vac gauge reads 20".

P0300.... fvck...

Re: backfire? when in boost

spray your carb clean around the injector o rings....then around the lim where it meets the block

Re: backfire? when in boost

so your leaking before the o2 sensor at the Y ? That can really throw things off.
