Oil and Filter preferences

What Brand do you guys trust? I always used quakerstate high mileage and bosch oil filter. used to buy an engine cleaner ( you add it to your oil before changing it, crank it up for 5 minutes then drain it don't remember the name of it ) and Lucas additive trying to take care of my car. But now, with this economy I don't have money for that lol so I just take whatever is on special, used to spend 40 dlls on every oil change. Now I spend 18 :) I changed the oil today and I bought the special of catrol gtx and stp oil filter

How about you guys? which brand do you trust?

cheapest name brand synthetic and a K&N/mobil filter.

Repeat every 10 000 KM.

10 000km=6000miles (aprox)? .....I don't know if I'm "over protecting" my car, but it has now 190,000 miles and I'm starting to change the oil every 2500 instead of 3000 miles because I see that my oil starts getting a little dirty at 2000

I get Mobil 1 fully synthetic high mileage..

And a Fram Synthetic oil filter. I'm wanting to switch since I found out autozone carries different kinds. Probably to a mobil filter.

Okay then... at my store... options are as follows:

****ty house brand filters that used to be made by fram but switched to china for cost reasons

Standard cheapo fram

Quaker state filter

Fram synthetic

Fram high mileage

K&N

In the back we keep the better Frams and we're soon going to be carrying mobile filters.

Well, GPs run well on pretty much any oil. Anyway like matt said dark oil doesn’t mean its is bad or used up. I wll say this, unless your car has a known problem changing the oil every 2500-3000 miles is a little over kill. But it's your car, what ever makes you happy. I personally use Castrol GTX every 5000 miles, and use AC Delco filters. But honestly most any brand name oil or filters are about the same. Fram oil filters are built on the cheap side, and K&N filters are built heavy duty. I have run pretty much every filter out there, hard to say which ones are any better than the next one. Anyway for my dollar I’d recommend using the appropriate (either GTX, high mileage, or synthetic) 5W-30 Castrol oil and skip using any additives. And for filters AC Delco or Pure 1s.

^^ ive had over 100 and sumthin cars and always used 10w40 synthetic and never had a problem and im sure you all see what i do to these cars with the big a$$ rims lol:th_thumbsup-wink:

10w-40 is too thick for newer engines. The celerances are too tight.

^^b.s ive used it for decades never had a motor go on me and i put a whoopin on them with my rims, it recomends 10w30, 10w40 a hair thicker better protection:th_winking:

i use mobile 1 synthetic with a mobil 1 filter. probably will change every 5-6k miles. Got something in the mail the other day saying the newer GM vehicles are good for 8-10k between oil changes.

True, I can confirm that. I have extrapolated my OLM a few times and it always puts me at ~9k mile oil changes. My personal worry is that I don’t see many oils that advertize 10k oil changes. But at the same time I do know GM fully stands by their OLM. Even thought they use a fairly robust algorithm for the OLM, it can’t compensate for all the variables.:th_computerproblem:
