What Octane gas to use?!!!

e85 will in no way slow your car down unless youre a complete idiot when it comes to making a car run.

But apparently it also slows your car down too. Did you look at the run times?

Yeah in a flex fuel vehicle designed for economy. Not a blown car with someone tuning it. Fosho runs e-85 and gained a **** ton of timing. E-85 is 103 octane. Higher octane = less heat = more timing/boost= more power.

Didn't catch that part. My bad.

Is this thread really discussion about using a higher octane in a forced induction car? Get real people...it needs it...like a motor needs oil. You should have known this before you bought the car...*sigh*

isn't the point of that article that even though its a flex fuel it doesn't get better economy? forgive my ignorance, i know nothing about tuning.

E-85 initially takes 30-40% more fuel, but after tuning for it you can gain back some mpg and still are only paying $2 a gallon for 104 octane. There are plenty of high powered forced induction street cars that swear by it and have dyno results to prove the gains. One person hit 430whp on a small turbo kit and stock engine and cam, 1.9 rockers running E85. I can say it kills at least 6-10* of knock.

If I wanted cheap fuel economy I would put 87 octane in and tune for that to run safe, granted I would have to pull about 10 degrees of timing and more, but that would not be fun at all.

I would read the MANUAL and go with what that says. The manual is still a good book to read and get info. I know cars, love them, not saying I'm an expert, but I still read the manual when I get into a diff/new car. One of the first things I do.

Higher Octane Gas = more $ per gallon.

Higher Octane Gas + a car designed for it = better running car.

Better running car = Better gas mileage

Better gas mileage = Less Gas used, offsetting the initial higher gas cost.

17 mpg on cheap gas@ 2.49 gallon, 10 gallons = 6.8 cents/mile running bad
19.1 mpg on BP 92 @ 2.69 gallon, 10 gallons = 7.1 cents/mile running well.

The 4% fuel cost savings isn't worth it. Run the Gas the Car was designed for.
