aftermarket spoiler at junkyard...

fst

New member
so my friend and i went to the nearby junkyard for anything/nothing for our cars. i found a green coupe L36 and noticed it had an aftermarket spoiler that resembles the C-west spoiler with the center brake light on it.:th_sick1:
unfortunately the clear coat was nastly peeling off of it and the junk yard wanted $65 for it since its an aftermarket type. i was thinking about getting it, but the cost to get it all repainted and clear coat i'd be looking at between 300-400 to get it professionally done. just thought if anyone liked or disliked them and if i should get it or not:th_peaceout:

that yard does stuff backwards, most yards when it's aftermarket either scrap it, or sell it cheap, as they know they cost less than factory stuff usually

the wings west ones were pretty expensive, IIRC so unless its definitely not one, doesnt seem like a bad price.

pretty sure it looked like this but forest green and clear-coat peeling:th_nervous:

hm, im not a big fan but maybe thats cause i saw one on a piece of junk ant eater SE w/ the 3rd light dangling down.....

Ya, Allen K has the Wings West Spoiler. To install that on our cars requires the stock spoiler holes to be filled in and the trunk has to be repainted. In the end, it's a pretty darn expensive spoiler when you add in all the work that's needed to put it on the car.

You need a friend in the autobody buisness. I have 2. One said he would re-do my clearcoat for free(spoiler). The other did all the body work & paint on my TA when it got hit for $600 less. He had it for a week in his garage. Worked on it at night. That was okay though cuz I had other cars to drive. You all really need to be closer to me.

I have to get my car into the shop. I just installed an 03 limited edition spoiler and the stock spoiler cut into the paint bad. :th_sick1:

I had the WW spoiler on my original 98 GTP. I loved it. I swapped an SE trunklid plus cash for my GTP trunklid/spoiler in the same color, so it saved me big.

well the wing was still mounted to the trunk, so if the deal's right i might just get both trunk lid and spoiler pending the price. i may just get them repainted at like maaco or something for the price(sorry dubob!!) and apply since i hear maaco doesnt apply clearcoat, is it possible for me to add it myself or is that a big nono?

depending on what paint package you get from maaco will determine weather or not you get clear coat.

that being said, i'd see if there are any other local smaller shops around that you could check with. I dont know if i'd trust maaco to strip and paint the wing properly.

Freeman, check steelseductions at GTPowderworks old garage.......he does good work and is very reasonable.
