Why are people abandoning the W-Body?

Every wbody in the junkyards here good motor/bad trans.

Exactly the reason why the trans scared me from the day I bought the car. I mean, I put 71k miles on the car myself in just under 6 years, and it had 194k on it total, so its not like there is any shame for it, but it just sucks it went when it did.

I kick myself for not getting rid of it last spring like I intended on doing.

Hard to justify $2600 for a new trans for a car with 200k miles on it. You could always risk it with a used one.

It's such a shame that GM put such an amazing engine on top of such a pile of **** transmission.

2600 for a trans wtf you smoking?

I laugh at all you people crying crap trans, it can hold 100hp more than it was ment to, how the fck is that crap?

You all should go throw 15psi at your non gm factory motors so I can laugh when everyone pisses and moans of it blowing a hole in the block because **** motors

So it can handle 100 more hp than stock, but it craps out without being beat on for no reason?

And if you are blowing a hole in an engine with a measly 15 psi, then you had a crap tune. It has nothing to do with the engine.

I've had mine 13 years. Super easy to fix. As far as speed it has enough kick for me with the baby intercooler; rockers etc; etc; I'm not trying to outrun anybody with it. Once i get my Charger RT i'm not even thinking about ditching it. For what? Like i said paid for; runs great; easy to fix. Hell it has rust, but it ain't no big deal. The things been on the road for 16 years what do you expect.

Preach it man!

You expect a machine to run forever? To be flawless? Your trans was going out for a while and you even knew it and tried to bandaid it.

I mentioned nothing of a gp engine, go re read. The gp's are dam lucky to come near bullet proof engine wise where others require forged aftermarkets to run more than 10psi.

Everyone needs to stfu about their crying bull**** on a stock fcking trans, mod the car, then cry because stock things broke, aka a dam input shaft. Beat the car it beats you back, that goes with ANY car.

Tell that to LS4 owners who had their transmission die at 30k miles when they driving under normal conditions.

You sure do like to make a lot of assumptions.

First, I also said nothing of a GP engine.

Also, I didn't know it was going out for awhile. The forward band doesn't give you warning signs before it breaks. I didn't beat the car and it is basically stock.

Yeah. Not just LS4 or FWD guys.

My brother had a 07 Trailblazer with around 90k on it when 2nd randomly went out making it undrivable.

Its maddening they kept the 4T gen around as long as they did. It's also infuriating they had a better transmission available when they made the GXP and they didn't use it. 6T75 would make the car 1000% better both for fuel economy and for quickness.

Edit: though even the 6T had reluctor ring issues from the factory on about 50% of models.

Fck me I think I am confusing you with someone else, dammit.:th_sick2:

Yes that's about what a trans from triple edge costs.

My sisters trans went out in her 01 SE at 75k miles, and she hardly drove the thing.

Regardless of the fragility of the transmission, the 3800 is one of the best engines ever designed.

Simple, durable and strong enough to handle some insane amounts of power considering the weight and size as compared to other similar size/displacement engines.

And the W-Body platform is known for being the one with the 3800, and since it came in so many different cars it's even now still cheap and plentiful.

I don't think the W-Body will ever be fully abandoned, because, even with all of it's shortcomings and design flaws/failures, it's a car that refuses to die, and is too cheap to repair to make a different platform feasible for a dependable daily driver.
