What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Last Night. CUBS game, and Pontiac.
Damplifier almost done. Only got 3 sheets of the stuff left. Not gonna be enough. Need to order more for doors and trunk. Sucks. It's expensive.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

To all the naysayers, my redneck HV3 has done exactly what I needed it to, my LTFTs have already learned after 25 miles and 4 days of driving, compared to 150 miles and 2 weeks of waiting without the insert installed.

I consider that a success.

Installed some in-channel ventvisors last night. Cut my finger on them. Not sure if I like them. Life is tough. LOL

New res on, say the old one was toast. Car sounds stock again LOL. Let's see how long before I pull a scotty and blow that clamp off lool

Friendly warning....next time, turn that clamp sideways...right now it's the lowest part.....it's just searching for something to snag on, speedbump, gas station ramp, chunk of ice....whatever... I'll post some pix of mine w/description tomorrow....

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

He can turn the clamp when he's back under there next week swapping out the mufflers. LOL

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Nerp, mufflers are 2 years old and fine lol. Clamp isn't the lowest thing, my car is already 4x4 so it'll be fine lol

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

Soooo, resonator substitution with Thrush muffler (glasspack), 2 1/4 I.D. in & out (fits over stock pipe). Cut bad res off right in front of it, this allows use of whats left behind the flange, about 2", (use long sawzall blade and the front edge of res as cut guide) Slide glasspack over and clamp, I also added a tailpipe hanger behind the clamp with its anchor point in front of the flange to help keep it from sliding off ( also shot a self tap screw through it )

And at the rear (after cutting just like the front) I used a " 18 inch tailpipe extension" from Advance( 2 1/4 ), one end inside the glasspack, the other end over stock rear pipe (cut long to fit real tight, bottom it out in the glasspck, and as long as you can make it while still being able to get it together.

Notice clamps turned sideways to prevent scraping on whatever you drive over (speedbump, etc,) and ripping down your work.

Re: What did you do to your boat today? Vol 2.0

After three transmissions my mechanic finally fit one in the car and at long last I drove it home. But now, the damn thing won't crank. There's some weird wiring coming from the battery so I have no idea where or how well it is grounding, or how well it's connecting to the starter, but it was starting until it found my driveway. I'm just getting clicks.

Anyway, I went to the parts yard and grabbed a new shifter assembly to fix the key release problem.

Do GP's go thru wheel bearings quickly? My cousin did the last inspection on mine before I got it, said it will need one in the future, and also says it's the reason why my drivers side front sounds like an off balance mud tire going down the road.

Everyone goes through aftermarket wheel bearings. The OEM ones lasted 100,000 miles cheap aftermarket last 1-6 months.

Buy good aftermarket ones and they will last. I have Moog in both fronts on mine and they have lasted several years.

My car has 180k and only had one bearing go bad. That was at 126k and like 4 years ago I used a timkin.

Not just the GP, but the W-body platform.

Left front, OE failed, replaced with SKF.
Right front, OE failed, replaced with SKF.
Left front SKF failed after just shy of 3 years, replaced with SKF.
Right front SKF failed after just shy of 4 years, replaced with Delco.
Right front Delco failed after 1 month, replaced with Delco.

Never replaced so many wheel bearings on one car in my life.

I used to go through aftermarket wheel bearing about once a year.

I decided to experiment and use a torque wrench and torqued everything to specification when changing wheel bearings and I haven't had any of my after market wheel bearing go bad since!
