Not sure if you can tell or not by just looking but I'm assuming my trans has had work done already. It by far the cleanest thing under the hood

Mine has not been apart, and that gasket is just as shiny. Not sure what the pink marking is, that may be something.
 


You should explain that for us, I want to know why it's bad for it aswell.

Because that is the first time I've ever heard anyone say that. I want valid proof aswell.
 
I'm pretty sure that the torque converter constantly engages/dis-engages with it.
Depending on the speeds you're going this can be constant (50 mph seems to be the worst spot for me).
Parkave91 or someone else with hptuners could probably comment with more concrete proof; however, more heat, more wear, more prone to failure with our already ****ty converters.
 
It does not engage and dis-enage the converter when in DoD/AFM.

You are likely at the point where the load on the motor is causing it to enter DoD and leave DoD fairly often because that is all dependent on vehicle speed, engine rpm, map kpa, engine load, pedal position etc etc. It does not take much for it jump in and out of DoD and that's more than likely what is happening. At 50 mph I bet you are barely over 1300-1500rpm with the 2.93 gearing and thats a pretty high load situation on the transmission.

And the converters are actually one of the smallest issues with these cars. The heat kills the fluid, which kills the clutches which makes them burn up and start slipping. Or the solenoid problems and Torque converter clutch solenoid issues.

No lol thats not how the torque converter lockup clutch works. The cylinder shutdown does probably coincide with the TCC lockup, because the lockup functions at cruising speeds, however the sole function of the lockup clutch is to reduce heat, reduce wear, and make the transmission less likely to fail. TCC will continue to function in exactly the same manner regardless of DoD being enabled or not.

And FFDP, converters are a big failure point on this car, specifically the TCC lockup clutch. There is an inherent defect in the TCC lockup solenoid mechanism in the valve body that causes low TCC apply pressure and results in clutch failure and contamination of the fluid. It's one of the biggest failures dave over at TEP encounters. That's the reason why one of his biggest upgrades is the reworked TCC apply valve.
 


Well it looks like I'm probably wrong - just what I'd read.
Or maybe an excuse to have convinced myself to disable DOD haha.

On a separate but somewhat related topic - does having it disabled protect you from collapsed DOD lifters? Or is the only way to do that a dod delete kit?
 
It makes the chances of it happening less, but still very possible for them to fail.

Mainly because the lifter is always a moving part and will still have that feature on it, it could still fail out of random.

And spawne, then it seems that the converter failures are still because of another part of the transmission that fails first and causes the torque converter itself to fail.
 
Sure dod disengaging half of the engine while slipping the converter to keep the car from bogging down is great for trans life and has zero to do with trans failure.

Tune that **** off, enjoy

I just sent my computers up to Overkill in Canada. I paid $180 for the "send in special". I had to pay $40 to ship my computers to him and the $180 for tuning and return shipping. My car runs and shifts WAY better now. I had DOD turned off completely. He also turned off or turned down the stabilitrak system so I can burnout going around a corner now without the damn computer limiting the power and making the car bog out. This Overkill tune just woke my car up. It seems a little more powerful now. The trans shifts WAY better too. You can also rev it past 4000 RPM in park too unlike the stock tune. It just makes the whole driving experience of my car better. It was worth the $220 FOR SURE.

The stabilitrak system cannot be edited, what he edited was your traction control, which I dont know why he would that considering we have a button to turn it off. Not to mention doing burnouts around a corner is horrible for your differential. The stabilitrak system is not programmed into the ECU it is programmed into the electronic brake control module, which we have no access to.

Because the button does not disable traction control measures completely. Diff score etc tps max, abuse mode and tq mgmt measures need to be edited.

torque management is a separate function from traction control, thats the reason why it doesnt turn off when you turn the traction control off. -_-
