What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Well my brother was driving my GP yesterday to his new job. Said the key wouldn't release. So I went there, and did that little access hole on the bottom of the column. Got the key out, but I tried it about 10 times, and couldn't release the key, without having to do the manual release. Today, I tore apart the center console, looking at the wires to see if any of the wires that were broke. Mainly the purple and green one. All seemed to look good, but not knowing for sure about the connections. Tried taking apart the plastic column piece, so I could look at that one solenoid, but couldn't get that lever off, that tilts the steering wheel up and down. Gave up on that for the time being. Searched some more, and one guy mentioned the battery.

So being my battery is 5 years old. I threw it on the charger. It released right away, and after trying it 5 times, it worked all 5 times. Ending up buying a new battery, and was able to release just fine. So I start taping up the wires, and tested it again, worked just fine. Put the center console together, then it got stuck again. Put the new battery on the charger, and it failed the first time, but the next 4 attempts, worked just fine. Took it off the charger, and got stuck. At that point, I had enough for the day, since I was about 5 hours into it, and the Super Bowl was about to start. I'll take another shot at it, next weekend, and use the volt meter and see what's going on.

After all that, I also had to put my rear view mirror back on. The rear view mirror fell off from the windshield, the day before I had that key problem. So before the Super Bowl started, I removed the old glue, from the windshield and glued the new button on, then waited for half time, to put the mirror back on.

Wow. I'm surprised they would do that.

I'm pretty sure I got this one in my work parking lot this morning; I stopped close to our garbage area to dump some garbage and cardboard in our bins. I'll be sure to talk to the boss if I have any issues. LOL

You got all the studs out without removing the hub? WTF?!? I had a short stud and it still was too long.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Yup. Whack it and rotate it Left and right sides of the knuckle are narrow

and you have to remove the lower control arm to remove the axle as it sits between the lower strut fork.
Just an annoying day for my beater car. 2 wheel bearings and 1 axle later. Scrapped the idea of replacing both. The passenger side is solid. But if it went smoother on the driver side , I was going to do both.
Using discounts I got both bearings for $30
but it cost me $65 for the axle minus 30% off at advance auto

so I'm not attempting the passenger side unless needed.

The driver side was soo bad the rim was actually clanking around like the lugs were loose

That's what I read, but me and a buddy tried and tried and tried; just wan't going to clear. The only reason the old one came out is cuz it was broken. The new Raybestos one was short for easy install. Ya right. Had to pop the bearing off to get her done.

Today I recieved a BT OBD adapter from AeroGaming... (thank you very much, you cool GPF-er! :D ) and put Torque on my tablet. I'll be fifty this year so the learning curve might be too much for me to handle. Still working on connecting. See? Might be good entertainment, keep popcorn handy lol.

After looking up the elm 327 mini I found out they're only like $3 on ebay, so paying the $6 for shipping prolly wasn't the smartest thing, but at least I got it to someone who'd use it. Still hoping it works like it should.
