Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Does it need to be done? (LIM)

SubwayGuy

Who is this guy?
If you take a look on the side of the intake manifold on the alternator side, you can see the original orange LIM gasket kind of hanging out. I can imagine it isn't supposed to be like that, but nothing is leaking out of it. I have had the entire UIM replaced with metal coolant elbows due to coolant leaking out of it. If the LIM gasket does need to be replaced, I really want to do it myself, but also don't want to replace it unless I absolutely have to. I can't really smell any coolant burning so I don't believe it is bad, but for all we know, it could be. Do you think it sounds like it has to be replaced, or do you think it will be good for a little longer? I know I should have the gasket replaced anyway, but I'm really not looking to do it unless I absolutely have to.

Pic? You talking about the gasket that spans the valley? I think your just seeing what your supposed to see but its hard to say without seeing what your seeing. See?

the orange rubber gasket is normal to be sticking out a bit. you need to look where th elim meets the head, then look for a black, or silver gasket.

black means plastic. silver means its been upgraded.

Here's what it looks like. I'm not sure what that black blob is to the right. It's like gasket maker or something. But it appears to have the black plastic gasket, Scotty. Does this look alarming or normal?

that gaskets fine, that blob is rtv, its fine. it needs to be there. need a better pic of where the lim meets the head. the area where that bolt is bolted to in the right of the pic.

That black gasket and blob of RTV are normal. The RTV is dabbed in all 4 corners to seal it off.

You'll want to look on the throttle body side where the intake meets the cylinder head, thats the best spot to see the lower intake gasket itself. Like he said it will either be black or silver in color, clean it off if you have too, dirt and crap can make the silver turn black.

the gskets on the left and right are the lim gaskets, the others two orange parts are just a rubber seal. its the same new upgraded or old gaskets.

Did you see if you have metal gaskets? Also, why you are there, might as well just bolt a blower to it. That's how I started, just a simple gasket replacement...

cause that all costs money. heads lim blower, gaskets for it all, balancer swap, idler pulley coil bracket, blah blah blah headers, ect ect lol

im sure he'd like to have a running car again at this point.....

Well, if he's like me I'm trying to save him money. I did the lim job on my stock engine, then a week later decided I wanted a blower. 4 weeks later I had a blower on and now I'm on my 4th oil change and 3rd coolant change in about 2000 miles. Yeah, wish someone talked sense into me sooner. :(

i just went 400 deep on a free used n/a engine pretty much, real cheap set of heads i got and ported up a little. all new gaskets for the whole engine too. and i had the headers already and a set of rockers on the old engine.

i was already a sc car, so i had all the odds and ends, where you n/a guys need to hunt the whole package down.

Yeah. If he's lucky he's got a good yard nearby. I found one after the swap where I could get an engine for 100.00. That's where I grabbed my second blower for 50( would of been 25 if I waited till half off day). I learned the hard way and paid 100 for crap heads that cost me almost 400 to have all the work done, paid 125 for first blower that was also crap. Had it rebuilt for 100ish. Stupidity is expensive I suppose :(

The junk yard I go to has Grand Prix's lined up. I'd have no worries finding parts, but I could only find 3 GTP's, and the S/C were taken....

Well, this will sound dumb, but where exactly where do I look? I know on the TB side, but like in what region? If you could show a pic that would be helpful.

it all adds up quick, some it adds up higher and faster then others lol

Yep, that's why I'm sticking to the gasket job if it needs to be done, and leave it at that. I took the car into the shop to get my plenum replaced and that burned over a $500 bill in my wallet. But after the videos I posted above, I could've saved me a lot of money, because that job didn't even seem hard. It seems like since after I replaced VC gasket, I feel like work isn't all that hard.

its just the fuel rail and wires harness and plugs thats scary. once that crap is off its a hand full of bolts and poof, its all apart.

open the hood, stand at the driver side of the bumper, bend over, now look where the dog bone mount is bolted on, now look near the top of the valve cover, you'll see a groove, thats where the gasket is.

cant miss it in this pic. where the coil bracket would be, you can see the outline of the lim to head.

Using this photo I found online, no that's not a John Deer diesel, I've highlighted the area in red. No there is nothing wrong with the saturation levels of your monitor, that is really a yellow engine. I know, I know....
