Good afternoon everyone,

I am brand new to this forum and was looking to buy a GXP sometime in the near future! I am looking for ANY and ALL insight you guys may have when going to look at one of these vehicles. What are all the little quirks with this car that may go wrong with this car, common problems to look for etc. Is this even a good car to purchase? How has your experience been with this car and would you do it over again.

Best,
-Connor O.

After replacing the transmission with a built one, tuning it, adding a cooler, then replacing hubs, and brakes, and tie rods, and the power steering pump, and the rack, and the lower control arms, and the front motor mount...I'd say it's just fine.

GXPs have lots of dumb issues that should have never been a thing. Especially the transmission that breaks after 20-100k miles for no reason. Get a GTP or Fbody if you want a V8

Are these cars even worth looking at or buying, be it a grand prix, GTP, G8, or an f-body. You guys would know better than me. Can you find one that is a reliable, honest, good car. I own a durango, and in our durango forum we all boast about how much we love our D's and how good of a vehicle it is. Are these pontiac's trash?

Gtps are cheap, easy to maintain and makes tons of power with little money spent

Gxps leave a bit to be desired but with a few modifications it's a great car.

But with any car there's room for upgrades. The real question is how deep are your pockets

but soon itll be a badass 3.69 gears built trans nitrous breathing killin machine!........id rock it no lies.....

Gxp is great car, these guys saying it has transmission issues are no different than other grand prix having transmission issues. If you adress the tune shift kit and cooler on arrival you can ride for quite a bit. I'm still on my factory trans at 108k I know it'll go soon when I need it the most but hey the same could happen and has happened in the v6 cars.

Power wise you can make all your wallet wants to spend. And the LS platform mod for mod will easily make more power

what he said but trans issues are something that can happen with different makes and models

Yes the other models can have transmission issues but they won't have as many issues as the gxp does because they make less power.I have 2005 gtp comp g with 167k on the original trans. If you have the money and are willing to deal with the issues the gxp has I'd say go for it. If you want a car that's cheap and reliable I'd say go for a gtp. If you can find a gtp comp g even better.
