Yesterday I got a message on my dash saying check gas cap, I went to go check it and it seemed fine. Today I got an check engine light on, I did a scan and gave me the error P0455 - Power train Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross Leak). I am going to replace the gas cap tomorrow and see if that fixes it if not I read that it can be the purge value and or the canister. If I want to replace the purge value I know its located under the hood but I have no idea where or what it looks like. Same goes for the canister not sure where its located. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can Anybody help me out and tell me where is the purge value located. Also I called a shop and they said the canister value doesn't come with the rubber hose, but I thought it did.

id change the gas cap if you've not done so.

the evap purge solenoid looks like this, it has 2 vac lines, one to and from it. it should be on the back side of the engine.

Getting a cap today and will give it a try, Okay so Im confused I thought the picture above is the solenoid valve which is located on the rear side near the gas cap and the purge value is located under the hood near the engine?

So if the gas cap doesnt fix it and both lines look good, would you change the purge value under the hood or the canister near the gas cap?

if the cap dont fix it look for a broken line or one thats popped off somewhere, under the hood and by the canister in the fender.

Causes A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: A loose or improperly affixed gas cap A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Replaced gas cap yesterday and checked the values and clear the code. This morning why driving the message came on again check gas cap, so either I need to replace the Purge value under the hood or the solenoid at the rear. Funny thing today I also got a message saying low brake fluid and then the parking brake light came on, I checked the fluid and sure enough it was low. I never topped off the brake fluid in any car I owned and im pretty sure there isn't a leak and I didnt see anything on the floor.

dont change the solennoid, look for a broken or loose line. its a leak, not a solenoid.

you eithe rhave a brake fuild leak, or need pad big time.

I checked for a loose line but didnt see anything unless im not looking in the right place under the hood. For the brake fluid I topped it of now going to see if there is a leak but i know there is alot of pad left

your gonna want to take the back tire off and check out the lines to the canister. you take the plastic inner liner off to get to it. if you look from under the car you'll see it. but you cant work on it like that. or see much.

did you clear the code yet? via scanner or un hooking the battery for 30 minutes or so?

ya I will and let you know thanks. I topped off the brake fluid and I didnt see any leak, will see if it goes down in the next few days. Thanks for all your help

Engine Light came back on today and with the same error code. Im going to check the hose in the back and see if I can see a leak, if it was the solennoid would it say a different error code?

it would be a code for a solenoid. that code is for a leak. you can have it smoke tested. buy, build one. if you smoke blow smoke in the tubes.

Not necessarily Scotty. The solenoid is merely an actuator that opens and closes. It may not be closing. The computer would still see it there...but it can't tell the position of the internal pintle.
