does the elm light up when plugged in?

i only see one red light lit up on mine.

either way if the blue tooth thing lights up it should be getting power.

maybe take a trip to autozone and have then scan it with their scanner. ( its free) if they cant read it also then you got a issue with the wires to the plug or something deeper.

My thoughts exactly scotty idk if this car should be throwing lights and maybe he made it so it couldn't or is that impossible and do I sound dumb?

wires go bad stuff happens, the light could still come on if it was trowing a code.

seen lots of posts where a scanner could not connect. see if the free scan works at the parts store, go from there.

i just checked your link again, you got the mini elm, those sometimes just dont work right on a GP. seen one guy here who got one and it wouldn't read either. he then got the normal one and it worked right. he also has a 3100 engine...coincidence? maybe not?

back to trying the free scanner at the parts store.

A 2001 GP SE isn't worth $2150 as Scotty and others have pointed out, but what's done is obviously done. Check the rear strut towers, wheel wells, rocker panels, and underneath the gas door for rust: if all of those areas check out fine, then you might still have a decent car for a while.


I thought the kid was an alright guy until I noticed one of the windows were held up by a 2x4... he obviously knew that was wrong and didnt tell me so now I wonder what else is wrong with it and I assume the worst

You didn't notice this first? Luckily window motors are easy. Use a T-25 torx bit or a 5/16 allen wrench to get the little bolt in the center of the door panel off, and then unbolt about a dozen 10mm bolts, and the window motor and regulator come right out. Don't forget the two that hold the regulator to the glass. Replace with a lifetime warranty part from the nearest auto parts store. I've replaced so many of them that I can get one out in 10 minutes now.

That's beyond me. PCM issues perhaps? Bad axle/wheel speed sensor? Or the needle is broken (I know the gauges on some Chevys are known to go haywire but I haven't seen one on a Pontiac yet). Or you do even have the stock 16 inch tires? Maybe you have a bigger wheel?


there is oil in the coolant... I dont know if this is residue from a fixed head gasket or if the LIM is eaten away and the oil is leaking into coolant because there is no coolant in the oil.... or if i have a cracked head or block...

Ahh, the infamous 3100 head gasket issues. Have fun... Make your old man wrench on the thing as payment for making you buy that car.

I'm surprised Scotty hasn't copy pasted his coolant flush technique yet :D

1. Two 10mm bolts remove the tstat housing on top of the front manifold. Remove the tstat so the water runs freely and replace the housing.
2. Pull the little petcock loose at the bottom of the rad with a pair of pliers, don't break the plastic piece, those are a ***** to remove if you break the piece off
3. Stick a garden hose in the top of the radiator (via the rad cap) and flush like hell. Run the engine while you're at it, and make sure to crank the heater too.
4. Keep flushing until it doesn't come out red anymore.
5. Refill with green coolant. Dexcool eats gaskets and is the source of your sludge problem.

i dont bother with the drain thing that always breaks or is clogged up. forget that step.


how to flush coolant.


remove the t stat, put the t stat housing back on, take the upper hose off the radiator, then push it down to the ground to a bucket or let it fly.


get your garden hose out, put it in the rad turn it on, then fire up the car, let it run till clear water pumps out the top hose.


then turn the hose off, run the car till no more water comes out the upper hose. then turn it off.


put your t stat back in, with new gasket, the upper hose back on.





now take 1 gallon of full strength green antifreeze, not the 50/50 crap. ( parts store cheap green is fine to use) dump the whole gallon in the radiator, fire up the car, fill the rad with hose water till its full. top as needed till its ready to be bled of air. it will burp and take coolant as the water in the block warms up the t stat opens up for a few seconds till cold coolant hits it and it shuts again.


now to bleed the air out, let it idle rad cap off till the fans turn on, (when the fans are on the temp is over 195 deg, the t stat is wide open) then open the bleeder screw on top the t stat housing a few turns till a steady stream of coolant comes out the hole, shut the screw, top off the rad. cap it.


done.
