Need help (Fbody Brakes)

I just got my f body brakes and had to order the banjo bolts. They just came in today and i installed them, well i sat outside bleeding brakes for like 20minutes. Its going straight to the floor but yet im not getting any bubbles out of the bleeders.
I heard they have a longer pedal throw, but after bleeding i pulled it out of gear to see if maybe it was supposed to be that soft. I had no brakes AT ALL, and continued rolling out of driveway. lol
Do these brakes take longer to fill up with fluid? should I just keep bleeding till i use the whole jug?
I know how to bleed brakes im just curious whats wrong, how about i gravity bleed for a long time?

Well i figured out i must have blown my master cylinder while bleeding or maybe its been leaking. not sure but its leaking between the mouning bolts.
 
sometimes (not sure in your case) when bleeding brakes by pumping the pedal, the piston in the master cyl. will go further than usual, because there's no fluid in the system. when you put your pedal all the way to the floor, it tears gasket material due to debris that gets pushed back in the cyl. and this causes the "blow by" effect in your master cyl. it's a good idea to get one of those bleeder tools when doing brakes for this reason. like i said, not sure what happened in your case, but this has happened to me. i had to replace my master cyl. because of this reason.
 
you never push the pedal to the floor, you can blow out all of the seals in the master cylinder. looks like that is what you did. call up Morad for a replacement
 
The most common error when doing this swap is putting the calipers on the wrong side. The left camaro caliper needs to go on our right and vice versa. You have to make sure your bleeders are pointing UP, otherwise it's impossible to bleed them.
 


really? are the bleeders on the camaro's toward the ground? you're right, if the bleeders arent pointing skyward, you will almost never bleed them properly.

That was the first thing that came to my mind, too. Check that the bleeders are pointed upwards. Also, are you following the right procedure for bleeding? You are going back pass., back driver, front pass., front driver?

No, the caliper is on the other side of the rotor on the camaros, so what's up for them becomes down for us. This is why you need to swap sides.

ahh. i see. good thing i found that out now. i'm going to be changing the set on my GTP as soon as the pads are done (about 3mos.)

Dude, dont feel that way. We ALL have made our share of mistakes and what is important to know is that is how we learn and then we take that information and knowledge and share it and that helps to grow the community.
 
yeah, i'm sure we've all done stupid sh!t at times. i'll be the first to admit that! syntheticsheild is right, that's why we're on here, otherwise we'd be mechanical wizards (and i haven't met one yet).
 
As I said, this is a VERY common mistake when making this swap, so you aren't alone. It's not something that people think about, the left caliper on the left side makes sense, right?

HA! you spoke to soon! na j/k. if it makes you feel any better I put the reverse band in backward and upside down when I rebuilt my trans.
didnt hurt anything just didnt have reverse untill I corrected my jacked up s#it.
 


Ah good to hear you got it figured out.

Your not the first to do this, so don't feel bad.

For the record, when I bleed my brakes, I always put the pedal to the floor, never a problem, ever.

I will go in this sequence for our cars:

right rear
left rear
right front
left front

pretty much longest brake line to shorted brake line till your done.

Keeping the master cylinder resv. full at all times, I will have a helper in the drivers seat push down on the pedal and yell "down" then I will open the bleed screw on the caliper, when the pedal hits the floor, my helper will yell "down" again, and HOLD it down, and when I tighten the screw closed, I will then yell back at them "up" and they take their foot off the pedal, and then they yell back "up" when the pedal is all the way up again, then we start all over again with me telling them I am ready by my yell back of "down".

I will go till all the air bubbles are gone of course, but I will flush out the entire system, and keep on going till the fluid turns clear from each caliper as we are working. Then your brake resv. have nice clean CLEAR fluid in it vs. the ugly dirty brown colored stuff you normally see on everyones cars.

According to the manual, I think we should be doing the bleed procedure AT the ABS unit under the hood.

I have always done it the way I posted above in that order, never had any issues what so ever. As long as the air is out of the lines, and you see no more air bubbles when you bleed, your good to go regardless how, or in what order you do it. Always leaned and read longest line to shortest line when bleeding brakes. Right rear is the longest, and left front is the shortest.

But its everyones car, and they can do what they want when they play mechanic too. :th_thumbsup-wink:
